Job Description
WHO WE ARE:
Mass marketing isn’t us. We’re about inspiring individuals instead of targeting homogeneous groups. Engaging people with their own ideas and ambitions instead of reaching segments. Simply put, we stand up for individuality—both in our work and how we work.
We speak up against bland, broad-brush generalizations. We fight for solutions that adapt to the individual’s needs, beliefs, behaviors and aspirations. And we commit to doing this in every aspect of our work for clients and their consumers.
We actively foster an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued and leveraged to achieve the agency’s vision. And most importantly, we value every individual’s well-being.
We are Fiercely Individual.
YOUR ROLE:
You love language. The rules, the nuances, the meaning. Everything about it, from the overall flow to the placement of punctuation, matters to you—because you believe clear communication is more important than ever and you know things can’t be left up to interpretation.
You’ll work with creative and functional teams to help make our communications clear, confident and human. Absorbing brand guidelines, ensuring they’re followed and helping define when and how they get stretched in order to meet our clients’ wide and varied audiences where they are.
On top of proofreading and editing responsibilities, you’ll assist our QA/QE team with testing. Coming at it from a creative standpoint, but also working to understand vendor, browser and delivery nuances that occur for our email campaigns (and assisting with similar duties related to other content assets, like banners, web pages, direct mail, etc.).
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Verifying materials for brand compliance, clarity of expression, consumer friendliness and continuity of style over time (across campaigns and channels—as appropriate), as well as appropriateness of visuals/artwork within the context of the piece.
- Verifying correct spelling, grammar and punctuation and adherence to brand guidelines.
- Applying knowledge of best practices and communicating any potential quality issues to the team, as well as participating in quality-improvement initiatives and working collaboratively to propose and implement effective solutions.
- Supporting teams in keeping current on client feedback, incorporating updates to client style guidelines and communicating them to the agency at large.
- Collaborating with QA/QE analysts, project managers, account managers, creative, campaign production and other departments/agencies to deliver error-free work.
- Ensuring copy, design and links render and function as intended, and working with creative team to track edits.
- Prioritizing assignments and meeting tight deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
- Exercising tact and diplomacy and protecting confidential information.
- Staying current with account technology and process updates.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing or similar, or equivalent experience.
- At least 4 years of experience as a proofreader/copy editor, preferably at an advertising or marketing agency. Knowledge of proofreading/editing needs for email is ideal.
- Strong ability to meet deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent command of the English language with respect to grammar, punctuation and vocabulary, and competency in using common reference and research tools (e.g., The Chicago Manual of Style, The AP Stylebook, internet search).
- Experience with proofreading work for industries with specific legal standards is a plus.
- Ability to learn new software quickly.
- Experience with basic technical quality-assurance work in marketing is a plus (e.g., testing emails for rendering errors, etc.). Knowledge of Litmus, Jira, and/or Confluence is also a plus, though not required.
- Effective communication/interpersonal skills to work across teams and disciplines.
- Strong documentation skills with experience in Box, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat or other digital editing programs. Comfort working in Figma is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Spanish and the ability to spot basic grammatical and spelling errors in Spanish is a plus, though not required.
- Comfortable working independently, without constant supervision, and making a process your own is a plus.
