The Data & Analytics team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston (FRBB) is looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join our team of data specialists to facilitate data-driven decision making across the organization. The team currently supports business lines and executive leadership in providing self-service analytics, responding to adhoc requests, providing capable and accurate analytics and statistical support, as well as serving a key role in data management and access. The role will involve working with stakeholders to define business requirements and understanding data needs, developing data pipelines to automate the flow of information, building statistical models to perform descriptive, diagnostic, predictive analyses, and creating visualizations. An important responsibility in this role will be to effectively communicate compelling analytics to help business lines better understand and leverage their data, enabling data-driven decision making. This role will work cross functionally and requires the ability to operate with substantial latitude for action; it will be a good fit for someone who is a self-motivated team player.
This role will be hybrid with a first district residence requirement, with regular on-site presence required.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Collect and analyze stakeholder business requirements and work with appropriate stakeholders to ensure quality and timely delivery.
  • Gather data and translate business requirements to provide appropriate analytical solution to solve business problems, ranging from basic reporting to predictive analytics.
  • Serve as a point of contact with business and technology teams to deploy best practices to extract, transform, and load data from a variety of data sources.
  • Deliver dashboards, graphs, visualizations, and supporting reports that enable teams to measure success and guide decision-making.
  • With some oversight, presents both orally and in written form on varying degrees of complex data insights to internal and external stakeholders, System colleagues, and the Board of Governors who have a varying degree of technical knowledge and subject matter expertise.
  • Analyze and document new and existing processes related to data management and recommend actions.
  • Work closely with other members of the team to collaborate on issues and address data quality improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as an expert and leader on the Data & Analytics team to understand the AWS analytics suite of tools and best practices in implementing new tools.
  • Serve as representative on working groups across the Federal Reserve System to understand emerging technologies and capabilities and share information back with the Data & Analytics team.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Typically requires 4+ years experience plus Bachelor's degrees in any of these fields: mathematics, economics, statistics, data science/analytics or similar quantitative field (master's degree preferred)
  • At least 2+ years experience leveraging AWS suite of analytics products (e.g. Glue, QuickSight, s3, SageMaker); AWS or other cloud certifications (AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty preferred)
  • Excellent problem solving skills and experience working independently with minimal oversight.
  • Passionate about telling data stories through visualization and dashboards. Committed to making analysis succinct and digestible.
  • Experience with gathering requirements from various stakeholders and presenting the results to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Applied experience with predictive analytics and other statistical methods to answer business questions.
  • Familiarity with extract, transform, load (ETL) processes and programming languages including SQL, R, and Python.
  • Expert with data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, QuickSight, etc.) and packages (ggplot, matplotlib, RShiny).
  • Ability to quickly learn and use new tools, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Experience with project management and collaboration tools (e.g. JIRA, git, etc.).
  • Experience with machine learning packages in R or Python (preferred).
  • Hands on experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and/or working with large volumes of unstructured data (a plus).
  • Experience working in an agile framework (a plus).
