Job Summary

The Senior Director, Individual Life & Financial Services (ILFS) Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is a Senior Level Strategy position that will primarily focus on developing partnership between IT and OneAmerica's Individual Life & Financial Services Line of Business. The Senior BRM is the single point of contact representing the IT interests of the Individual Life & Financial Services LOB. This leader will be a strategic thought partner, not just an IT services provider to Individual Life & Financial Services. The Senior BRM is also responsible for working with CORE IT teams, Vendor Management, Finance and Enterprise PMO to ensure the best possible experience across an technology enabled initiative lifecycle - from Ideation through delivery. While they are not responsible for the actual delivery, the Senior BRM functions as the executive relationship manager to represent the Individual Life & Financial Services LOB's needs, wants and wishes.

The purpose of this role is to support ideation, solution-development, service management, process improvement, and relationship management. This role will also be responsible to partner with OA's Digital Strategy team to expand a Test & Learn capability supporting Individual Life & Financial Services strategies. This will include exploring ecosystem partnerships with solution providers, data providers, non-adjacent industry players and InsurTech / FinTechs.

In addition to being the primary advocate for the Individual Life & Financial Services LOB in IT, the Senior BRM conversely is also responsible for communicating the IT vision and advocating technology best practices across theIndividual Life & Financial Services team.

The Senior Individual Life & Financial Services BMR will report to the VP of Digital Strategy & Optimization, The successful candidate will lead a team of 13 individuals consisting of an existing BRM, and Business Analyst Lead and Business Analysts aligned to the Individual Life & Financial Services LOB.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drive strategic alignment to ensure joint Business, IT, Technology and Digital Strategy teams are exploring, developing and executing on Individual Life & Financial Services business needs.
  • Responsible for collaborating with Digital Strategy, Enterprise Operations and Individual Life & Financial Services Business teams to exploit process improvement opportunities.
  • Lead Test & Learn opportunities
  • In the capacity of the primary point of contact between Individual Life & Financial Services and IT:

  • Maintain awareness of key initiatives and projects aligned with business line priorities
  • Introduce leading edge solutions and architecture to the Individual Life & Financial Servicesteam
  • Position technology as an enabler for business value
  • Champion managing through metrics
  • Inculcate a culture of Date Driven Decisions
  • Engage and participate in business line planning activities
  • Provide input to theIndividual Life & Financial Services Management team for applying technology to their challenges
  • Communicate and report Individual Life & Financial Services LOB concerns to IT - This should be wider than just technology challenges
  • Extend IT: Individual Life & Financial Services partnership to position IT as an enabler of the business with strategic relevance
  • Drive accountability with IT partners

  • Lead and coach existing Individual Life & Financial Services BRM and BA teams with a focus on execution
    • Manage the workload and growth of the business analysts by setting priorities, effective delegation, and balanced management of tasks and projects
    • Work with Business Analysts to ensure business and functional requirements are captured, validated, and accurately translated for technical delivery by the IT & Data development teams.
    • Take ownership of comprehensive analyses of project and/or initiative requirements
  • Mature the existing BRM function from an order taking function to a true Business Partner that is relied on as an enabler by the Individual Life & Financial Services LOB executive team
    • Bring new ideas to the business community
    • Challenge the business community
    • Work with Enterprise Strategy to align Individual Life & Financial Services multi-year roadmaps with other P&Ls
    • Conduct regular checkpoints with business line sponsors to gain feedback on Business : IT alignment and satisfaction levels.
  • Working with the IT team, act as a channel of business line input to IT demand planning process for new business requirements and initiatives.
  • Provide both strategic and detailed support to the Business, Finance and IT on significant projects and initiatives.
  • Assist in managing the annual capital planning process for the Individual Life & Financial Services LOB, as well as working with business and IT teams on managing prioritization, resourcing and scheduling of requests.
  • Partner with the ePMO to ensure that OA's methodologies, processes, tools and guidelines are followed consistently across Individual Life & Financial Services projects and initiatives
    • Improve the probability of successful delivery
  • Proactively collaborate with the Individual Life & Financial Services business stakeholders to identify process improvements and enhancements that increase efficiencies and decrease costs.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate Life Insurance, Annuity and Long-term Care industry knowledge of common concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Serve as an additional escalation path to navigate the IT organization on behalf of the business to resolve issues or facilitate urgent requests
  • Monitor customer satisfaction targets. Ensure the relevance and usefulness of the relationship management activities through satisfaction surveys across the business unit stakeholder community. Ensure IT services to the business are delivered in line with SLAs.
  • Build a strong internal network and cultivate close relationships with all key stakeholders. Participate in Individual Life & Financial Services business line staff meetings and strategy sessions.
  • Coordinate to identify, screen and evaluate new solution opportunities to address unmet (internal and external) customer needs.
  • Perform business analysis and prepare recommendations as needed.
  • Drive collaboration with shared services such as Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Operations and Marketing teams to ensure solution compatibility with company standards.

  • Master's Degree


Recommended Education and/or Certifications

  • For ILFS: FLMI Certification (LOMA) - If not existing, then OA will sponsor to gain it w/in 12 months of start date
  • For CLU, American College - If not existing, then OA may sponsor to gain it w/in 36 months of start date


Required Work Experience

  • 5+ years of people leader experience
  • 7 - 10 years of leadership roles within Business Analysis, Strategy and Delivery experience
  • Or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background


Salary Band: 08C

This selected candidate will be expected to work hybrid in Indianapolis, IN.The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in IN as business needs dictate or for team-building and collaboration.
