What You Will Be Doing

ChargePoint is seeking an outstanding product counsel attorney with 12+ years of experience to join our dynamic legal team as Sr. Director, Product Counsel. This person will provide front-line counseling to business executives and teams (Product, IT, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales Operations) in North America and Europe from the initial stages of design and development through launch and implementation of new products and services globally.  We are looking for an entrepreneurial leader who has keen analytical abilities and excellent judgment; a pragmatic approach to problem solving; flexibility to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, global environment; and a vision to help build effective, business-oriented processes that are designed to support scalable growth.

The successful candidate must have experience supporting global product development/launches and a solid track record of successfully translating legal requirements into actionable advice for the Product and Engineering teams. The successful candidate must also have a strong working knowledge of global privacy and data security laws and regulations. 

  • Provide front-line counsel to business executives and their teams in Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Operations and Sales on a broad range of legal and business issues related to products, services, networks, and integration with third party technologies.
  • Manage a broad range of product counseling matters for software, hardware, and services.
  • Review customer journey and user flows, product feature guides, marketing materials, and other customer-facing communications to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and standards in NA and Europe.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across various functions in NA and Europe to proactively provide legal guidance and manage legal risks and requirements while advancing our business goals and growth.
  • Develop scalable processes for legal review of new products and services.
  • Work with the Product team and legal team members to structure and draft product-specific terms, templates and guidelines.  (
  • Negotiate marketing, commercial, and licensing agreements as applicable. In addition, the role may require some strategic partnership work.
  • Learn and advise on the legal and business implications of new technologies such as AI and ML.
What You Will Bring to ChargePoint
  • This position requires a Juris Doctorate and membership in good standing with a state bar
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in product counseling in the tech industry
  • A passion for technology and the ability to understand complex technology and product use cases quickly
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex legal issues in non-legal language
  • A strong working knowledge of global privacy and data security laws and regulations.
  • Experience structuring, drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
  • Experience supporting product development/launches and translating legal requirements into actionable advice
  • A good sense of humor and ability to influence all levels, making those around you more effective
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Professionalism, integrity, good judgment, and respect for confidentiality
  • A flexible, can-do attitude that makes you willing (and excited!) to take on new, unfamiliar tasks
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, an ownership mindset, and the drive and desire to work in a face-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Experience collaborating with key diverse stakeholders, including the ability to build positive relationships quickly and interact with junior to senior business leaders with ease
  • Top tier legal and business judgment with the ability to quickly assess risk and prioritize
  • Enjoy collaborating with no ego in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Experience in a global business environment
  • Ability to deliver strong results with limited resources, under tight deadlines
  • Strong work ethic with ability to work independently
  • In-house counsel experience required

ChargePoint is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

The targeted US salary range for roles at this operating level is $182,500 to $300,000. This range represents base salary and does not reflect equity, benefits or variable pay where applicable. Actual base salaries are based on several factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications and specific work location.
