Job Title: Senior Engineer - Damper Rods
Reports To: Engineering Manager - Structural Components
Job Summary
This position will act as global functional lead for damper rods providing direction to and supports the team that is responsible for the design, development, and validation processes of hollow and solid rods and components utilized in these assemblies. This role anchors ownership of all rods subject matter expertise, standards, and engineering infrastructure to give guidance to the team to support the execution of the projects in multiple locations and cultures.

The D&D Engineer will:• Take ownership of his project, coordinates all development and validation activities, organizes the work to meet the defined project milestones and hold all detailed project information and documents as required.• Define the design of the new components, based on design rules, with the support of CAD designers, functional experts if required.• If needed, lead technical discussions with the suppliers/manufacturers, to come to an agreed production intend design.• Be the technical contact and expert for suppliers/manufacturers and for internal department's.• Launch and officially release the components into the systems according to the Tenneco standards, including all required specifications, drawings and models.• Develop and/or maintain generic ADVP (Analyse Design and Validation Plan) for the applicable components families.• Set up a DVP (design validation plan) for the specific component developments.• Organize and manage the report out of the ADVP, including follow up of timing plan.• Develop and maintain design rules and define boundary conditions for the applicable components.• Know and apply internal technical standards, procedures and specifications. Use appropriate engineering tools and techniques (FEA,CEA,) as required.• Ensure compliance with program management requirements, quality requirements and all applicable EHS standards/regulations.• Identify potential component liability issues and take appropriate action.• Analyses results, takes conclusions and drives design improvements together with the requestor or development teams.• If needed, use statistical analyses tools and DOE (Design of Experiment) techniques, like 6sigma, whenever required. Issue and monitor development reports.• Identify opportunities for product and process improvements, standardization efforts or cost reduction.• Use the 8D / Six Sigma approach as a problem solving tool in case of quality problems.• Support the project activities related to manufacturing team (Design for Manufacturing/ Design for Assembly) during design development, process development and production phases, eg. Use of Poka Yoke,• Support the project activities with the CAE/simulation engineers to establish a sufficient level of correlation between simulation models and the component performance.• Support benchmarking activities to evaluate and measure competition component designs and compare with Tenneco component technology.• Benchmark and look for innovative production processes and innovative materials, to enable efficient serial production, meeting final component functional, quality and cost requirements.• Develop tests to validate new designs, materials, and/or processes.• Support VAVE, cost reduction and resourcing activities• Ability to travel internationally (approximately 10%)
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:• Master's degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical and/or Materials Engineering. (Master degree preferred NA, mandatory EU)• Minimum 10 years progressive engineering experience in component product engineering and/or in component manufacturing process engineering, preferably metal components, plating, grinding, and heat treatment.• Working knowledge of materials, processing, and coatings related to rod manufacturing or similar components.• Experience in the automotive or hydraulics industry is an advantage.• Having experience by leading projects from conception through production.• Demonstrated history of developing supplier relationships.
Reasoning Ability:• Solid technical and mechanical understanding• Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.• Strong analytical and creative approach complex problem solving, determination to find solutions, results oriented
Specialized Skills/Knowledge:• Strong communication skills and fluent in English.• Strong background in mechanical design and/or hydraulics, is required.• Strong background in problem solving techniques (eg.8D, 6 Sigma) is required.• Multicultural awareness: able to communicate and coordinate with remote locations.• Result oriented + customer (internal/external) focused.• Customer and quality focus• Good supplier relationships
