The Role

We’re hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our engineering team and assist in taking our platform to the next level. This is an opportunity to get in at the ground level, make an impact on supporting and improving our core product, and bridge together team members with a cross-collaborative function. This role will report to the Head of Engineering.

This person will help design solutions to complex problems such as implementation of new partnerships in a scalable and maintainable manner, automate parts of our enrollment flows, among other challenges. This person will also lead initiatives, mentor other engineers, and uplift our codebase through code reviews and best practices.

Our technology stack is ReactJS on the front end and Ruby on Rails on the back end. Other core technologies include Selenium, Linux, and AWS. We are an Agile team working with 2-week sprints and daily stand-ups.

Responsibilities

• Working on both the frontend, backend, and anything it takes to solve problems and delight users both internally and externally
• Build backend services and APIs to support new and existing product initiatives 
• Revamp existing features to become more integrated with all other features
• Stay abreast of developments in web applications and programming languages
• Debugging and improvements to the infrastructure
• Lead projects where you’ll collaborate with team members across the company, like operations, product, and support
• Mentor other engineers

Your skills include 

• BS in Computer Science (or relevant degree) or four years of experience building large-scale backend systems and frontend interfaces
• 4+ years of relevant experience in web development, preferably in one of our technologies.
• Experience debugging and improvements to the infrastructure
• A sense of product ownership.  You care about the customer’s experience using the product that you’ve built
• Comfortable across the stack.  You might do anything from designing a redux store to tweaking a deploy script
• An ability to build elegant systems over business complexity.  Health insurance is a complex product, we’re building product to fix that
• Experience writing high-performance production-quality code
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills
• Understands how to read the DOM, see network/JavaScript calls
• Build robust systems requiring less and less engineering oversight
• Bonus: AppleScript, Chef, ML/OCR
