Job Summary
The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a creative learning professional for Aerospace University (AU) to take a lead role in the development, design and maintenance of new and existing learning solutions using effective and modern instructional design processes. This individual contributor role will plan, design, create, and maintain eLearning, videos, instructor-led programs, and other projects in a fast-paced, matrixed, and collaborative work environment.
With a strong background in training design, development, facilitation, and instruction, the Senior Instructional Designer is responsible for creating learning solutions in support of technical knowledge, people development, onboarding, management development, and other employee development needs. This self-motivated individual will have significant experience developing instructor-led (ILT) training, virtual learning, eLearning, and on-the-job (OJT) programs with a focus on learning modules that can be scaled across the Corporation and can be adapted to different learning styles.
This role will be responsible for creating just-in-time solutions as well as more robust training programs to meet the ever-changing needs of our workforce. Responsibilities will also include performing maintenance and refresh work on existing training materials, developing graphics and other multi-media effects to enhance training materials, and peer reviewing courses created by the AU instructional design team.
Serving as a mentor and subject matter expert on Instructional Design on interpersonal skill training curricula, management development courses, and other employee development programs. While serving as an individual contributor, the Senior Instructional Designer is a team-oriented coach who enjoys making an impact on others through knowledge sharing and collaboration. As a key facilitator, this position will interface across multiple levels of the company to determine training needs. This will include forming ongoing relationships with the Strategic People Partners, participating in needs assessment activities, interfacing with internal clubs and organizations, and collaborating with company leaders.
The Senior Instructional Designer will play an integral role in creating scalable training solutions that can reach our geographically dispersed workforce. Therefore, this position will perform technical troubleshooting during and after the production process, conduct quality assurance testing on all training materials created (including loading, testing, and evaluating programs in the Learning Management System), and proactively explore and recommend opportunities to expand our delivery methods into new learning technologies such as micro and social learning.

What You'll Be Doing
- Designs, develops, delivers, and implements innovative and creative learning solutions (web-based training, instructor-led training, videos, guides, etc.) utilizing a variety of methods and eLearning authoring tools.
- Assesses needs, recommends, and implements learning solutions that create an effective and robust people skills program to include self-improvement, interpersonal development, business skills, and management development.
- Establishes relationships with external vendors and internal project teams as appropriate to create or improve content to enhance employee performance.
- Crafts resources for classroom courses (job aids, leader guides, participant workbooks) that allow for rapid deployment by multiple instructors.
- Creates templates, processes, and standards for other instructional designers to follow.
- Works with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop and deliver eLearning and face-to-face or virtual instructor-led sessions using adult learning principles to enhance the learning experience.
- Sources content for courses independently by reviewing best practices, checking industry publications, reading books, conducting interviews, etc.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of learning solutions against business needs; analyze and interpret metrics regarding training effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement to key stakeholders.
- Manages complex learning-related initiatives as a business partner with internal and external customers. Creates detailed project plans for each program while maintaining acceptable levels of communication throughout the design process.
- Assists more junior and new instructional designers by providing mentorship and leading course development kick-off calls and regular meetings as needed.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Development, Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or a related field such as Education or Business
- Years of experience:
- Staff IV: Ten or more years of experience in Instructional Design and Learning Development
- Staff III: Six or more years of experience in Instructional Design and Learning Development
- Ability to conceive and develop of complex learning solutions/deliverables based on knowledge of learning methodologies, cognitive science, user-centered design research
- Advanced skills in designing blueprints, creating wireframes, storyboarding, and other representations of learning solutions.
- Skill in eliciting and information from subject matters experts to support and/or enhance learning
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Ability to collaborate across the Aerospace University team with enthusiasm for our work and respect for our co-workers
- Confident and results-driven; consultative orientation, strong people and process/project management capability
- Willingness and ability to travel in support of training initiatives as needed
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Advanced degree in Human Resources Development, Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or a related field such as Education or Business
- 12 or more years of experience in Instructional Design and Learning Development with an emphasis on eLearning and mobile learning
- Applicable professional certifications:
- Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP)
- Change Management or related certification (PROSCI or other)
- Applicable professional certifications such as Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Society for Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP)
- Certifications in people development related tools (e.g. DiSC, MBTI, DDI, Franklin Covey, CCL 360 degree assessments)
