Senior Legal Counsel

Team Details

The Tradeweb international legal team is based in London and is made up of 5 qualified lawyers, and 4 legal administrators. The international legal team is responsible for the legal, company secretarial and regulatory issues arising outside of the US predominantly in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

The Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with the key business stakeholders in Asia, the International General Counsel and the wider International legal team. The role will predominantly focus on supporting the Tradeweb Asia businesses (with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo and Sydney), but will also include exposure more widely to the work of the International legal team.

Main Responsibilities

• Being responsible for the legal function for Tradeweb in Asia and accountable to the key management stakeholders in Tradeweb's offices in Asia.
• Working closely with the International General Counsel on issues, affecting the Asia businesses and working to resolve these.
• Supporting the various business teams in Asia including the sales, client services and dealer relations teams.
• Interacting effectively with the business teams to understand new projects and initiatives and discussing and advising on the legal implications of them.
• Advising, negotiating and drafting commercial contracts for a wide range of Tradeweb services, and advising on and analyzing vendor agreements, market data contracts, cooperation agreements and client agreements.
• Providing legal support where required to other Tradeweb teams such as Regulatory Compliance and Risk teams.
• Liaising with external counsel where appropriate.
• Assisting with regulatory and compliance related issues in Asia and keeping up to date on regulatory developments as they might impact our Asia locations.
• Providing a degree of company secretarial support for the company and its branches in Asia.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Qualified lawyer and knowledge to the level of a senior lawyer/director.
• Experience in dealing with cross-border legal issues across multiple jurisdictions.
• Ability to prioritise and proactively manage a wide variety of work; excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills within both business and legal team contexts.
• Ability to challenge and think independently, and to demonstrate good commercial and legal judgement.
• Collaborative team member who is a self-starter and can work independently with support where required.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Mandarin language speaker highly desirable.
• In house legal experience strongly preferred.
• Exposure to working in the financial services industry.
• Experience with working in an e-trading or e-commerce business.
• Experience with compliance and regulatory issues.

Core working hours are 8am-5.30pm, based in the Singapore office Monday to Friday.
