Job Description

Summary of Position:

The Senior Network Architect is responsible for the engineering, architecture, support, routing, switching, documentation, troubleshooting, transport topologies, network hardware, security, VoIP, and all related services within the infrastructure. The Senior Network Architect will provide both internal and external customers with expert network design and daily operational support of the Enterprise-wide network, including participation in planning, installation, maintenance, management, and coordination.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide architecture, configuration, and support for ACI (Application Centric Infrastructure), Cisco ISE and Cisco WLC, Cisco APIC
  • Develop and maintain relationships across functional groups as well as mentors other engineers
  • Act as a technical expert to provide technology/product training, developing documentation and automation
  • Interact across support teams, 3rd party vendors, Cisco Sales, Professional Services, and Development teams to solve customer issues and improve processes
  • Provide technical expertise to perform root cause analysis of service interrupting incidents; develop and implement strategies to prevent a recurrence
  • Create or propose technical solutions when faced with a new complex systems design or process issue, where little or no precedent exists
  • Take responsibility for prioritizing critical, competing tasks that may lack clear results
  • Lead operational improvements upstream into product development efforts
  • Drive creation and execution of documentation, process, and procedure improvements to streamline and optimize work performed
  • Recommend appropriate network configurations to meet users' needs and departmental standards
  • Implement and maintain bridges, routers, gateways, remote access servers, security firewalls, services, and Internet or Intranet devices and connections
  • Design, configure, monitor, and optimize local and wide area networks for optimal performance, maximum availability, minimal maintenance, and reasonable costs
  • Perform preventative, scheduled, emergency, and proactive upkeep on the local and wide area networks
  • Implement and support a maintenance plan for a wide array of network resources and connectivity hardware
  • Design, configure, monitor, and maintain a highly available infrastructure to ensure network and systems integrity
  • Collaborate with telecommunications partners to integrate voice, data, and video applications on the local and wide area networks. Performs basic telephone maintenance as required
  • Analyze, recommend, and evaluate new hardware, software, and communications products to ensure network compatibility and scalability
  • Develop, maintain, and update a library of technical documentation
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, network traffic analysis, and maintenance on connectivity devices when additional expertise is required
  • Work with cross-functional teams in the design and implementation of information technology. Assists in the training of other information systems personnel to improve their technical skills
  • Assist departmental management with the development of systems standards, short and long-term goals, project management, and strategic directions

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee in this position frequently communicates with other co-workers/clients who have inquiries about the various projects and other needs. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time. The employee in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operate a computer and office machinery such as a calculator, keyboard, copy machine, and printer. Frequently moves boxes with equipment weighing up to 25 lbs across the building and/or to other offsite buildings for various project needs.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree Required
  • 10+ years of experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field and/or years of experience
  • 10+ years as a Network Architect or manager in an IT organization supporting >5K network devices
  • 10+ years' Experience with enterprise network monitoring and management frameworks
  • Ability to identify opportunities and specifications for automation to eliminate the need for repetitive manual work
  • 5+ years of experience in Python and Network Automation
  • Expert-level knowledge, experience, and ability to troubleshoot and produce designs that leverage protocols such as MSTP, 802.1q, 802.1AX, TRILL, OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, LDP, etc.
  • Expert-level knowledge of ACI, Nexus Switches, UCS, ISE and WLC, IOS-XE
  • Working knowledge, experience, and ability with TCP internals and other L4-7 protocols and technologies such as SSL, HTTP, DNS, NTP, Local Load Balancing, Global Load Balancing, Netmon/Wireshark, etc.
  • Experience with data analysis skills and statistical tools
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems, or other technical fields. MS / Ph.D. plus
  • CCIE/JNCI Required
