Your Opportunity

The role of a Project Manager is to manage the design and delivery of large projects and maintain relations with current and future clients within our Power business line. Candidate must be a hands-on problem solver willing to work through issues as they arise with staff, clients, offices, disciplines, and projects. They must also foster effective working relationships between colleagues, associates, clients, and officials.

Your Key Responsibilities

Act as primary point of contact between Stantec and the client and are
  • Responsible for preparation of project plans, management of work in progress (WIP), cost control, schedule, management of the coordination of the project engineering and technical support staff and management of project scope, including negotiation of scope changes with the client.
  • Assist with estimating and responding to RFPs with work scopes for projects
  • Certify Stantec's Project Management Framework is followed, including project reporting, management of project value versus project percent complete, and quality control/quality assurance procedures.
  • Ensure that proper Stantec Design Practices are followed as they relate to their Practices/Disciplines deliverables and they act as a primary point of contact for the Stantec Project Practice/Discipline Team Members. On larger projects, a Project Engineer may be assigned to coordinate engineering activities and report directly to the PM.
  • Responsible for management of work in progress (WIP), cost control, schedule, management of the coordination of the project engineering and technical support staff and management of project scope, including negotiation of scope changes with the client.
  • Perform project audits to verify compliance with quality review and independent review requirements. Be the driver for consistent use of QA/QC processes and procedures.
  • Interact extensively with clients, including developing new and existing relationships. Maintain personal relationships with clients to expand business opportunities.
  • Proactively use, promote, and manage the Stantec Pipeline for business development pursuits.
  • Promote the completion and responses to client surveys

Accountability & Complexity:
  • Assignments/projects are complex in nature and require the application of broad engineering knowledge in multiple disciplines. Plan conduct and direct complex assignments with a high degree of independence.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of major initiatives/programs and projects that help shape the future direction of the organization.
  • Review and evaluate technical work of other professionals.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to industrial worksites to support project work.

Leadership & Teamwork:
  • Provide advice, direction, coaching and mentoring to other professionals and technical staff.
  • Participates in decisions made concerning the selection, training, evaluation, discipline, and advancement of staff.
  • Exhibit leadership in one or more of the following specializations: business development, technical expertise, design, project management/client management or operations management.

Communication:
  • Manager communicates and explains facts, practices, policies, procedures, and context on project/program development to internal and external clients.
  • Possess effective negotiation skills to define contract terms.


Your Credentials and Capabilities

Broad general knowledge of electrical industrial and utility power projects, including strong familiarity with other disciplines required for completion of such projects, including Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, environmental remediation of construction sites, Surveying and Geomatics, and permitting as well as electrical disciplines such as Protection and Controls, load studies, short circuit analysis, harmonic analysis, grounding studies and design, cable thermal studies, voltage profile studies, arc flash analysis, and SCADA systems.
  • Originality in providing innovative, practical, and economical solutions.
  • Demonstrate broad technical knowledge and experience in multiple areas of specialization and/or business operations management within the organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational directives, programs, standards, and administrative procedures is required.
  • Able to discern complicated facts and disseminate practices, policies, procedures and context on project/program development to internal and external clients.
  • Requires effective negotiation skills to define contract terms.
  • Must foster effective working relationships between collegues, associates, clients and officials.
  • Provide expertise to internal and external clients to resolve complex problems and issues.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in applied science or engineering with additional training in industrial and/or electrical utility engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of related experience and a professional license in their discipline or a PMP registration is preferred
  • Experience on Utility or Power projects is required
