I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

The Senior Reporter for Crime is a seasoned, resourceful and ambitious journalist who has sound news judgment, a deep rolodex of contacts and sources, and a proven track record for securing exclusive interviews. A self-starting team player with a strong sense of urgency, they can expertly and quickly find, report and write compelling news and feature stories for both people.com and the magazine, often juggling multiple tight deadlines. The Senior Reporter will work closely with the Senior Editor, Crime, and the Senior News Editor, Crime, and brand leadership to help identify and cover news stories that can benefit from original reporting, and tap into their rolodex of sources to help enrich other developing news stories in progress to ensure that PEOPLE is publishing authoritative true crime content. The senior reporter will contribute ideas, report and write,with an eye towards traffic-driving content.

II. Essential Job Functions

Weight % Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

70% - Reporting and writing Crime stories across print and digital (3-5 per day)

25% - Securing exclusives and collaborating with the Senior Editor, Crime, on pitches and sourcing opportunities

5% - Appearing on People's crime TV series 

100%

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications, related field or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience: Minimum 12 years minimum

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent digital writing skills, a deep knowledge of the true crime world, the celebrity news landscape, an eye for a good story, ability to work well with many people across job functions, knowledge of analytics, SEO and audience engagement. Great celebrity contacts and the ability to make friends with anyone. Incredible interviewing abilities. Strong news instincts.
