SENIOR REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE – ANN ARBOR- IN-PERSON
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Representative Payee Senior Staff member, who will play a crucial role in the administration of representative payee services for individuals who are unable to manage their Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, Veterans Affairs, or other benefit payments on behalf of beneficiaries. This role will include outreach, marketing, and analytics of the program focusing on accounting ensuring compliance with program regulations. In addition, this position will provide quality services to beneficiaries with financial management needs, eviction prevention through financial assistance in the areas of rent/bill payment, budgeting, financial assessment, credit repair, and money management training for people with disabilities. This position is a member of the Payee Team and is a community-based position.
Responsibilities
PARTICIPANT MANAGEMENT

  • Apply for payee status for persons electing the company as their payee
  • Request and disperse funds for SSA eligible activities as regulated by SSA
  • Provide regular reports on individual accounts as requested by SSA or the participant
  • Meet with participant to discuss financial goals, barriers, challenges, and strategies
  • Assist the participant to meet their current needs, such as housing, food, clothing, medical expenses, and other necessary items
  • Provide concrete budgeting assistance and financial planning assistance to participants

ACCOUNTING MANAGEMENT

  • Leads general accounting aspects related to the program following company, local, state, and federal regulations
  • Data management and analysis of the program
  • Receive entitlement funds on behalf of participants
  • Safeguard the participants’ funds from fraud, scams, or other forms of financial exploitation


ADMINISTRATION

  • Provide periodic reports to the SSA or other relevant authorities regarding how the beneficiary's benefits are being used
  • Communicate with the SSA upon changes in the beneficiary's circumstances that may affect their eligibility for benefits
  • Maintain open communication with the beneficiary, involving them in financial decisions to the extent possible, and keeping them informed about their finances
  • Keep participant files up to date regarding income and disbursement of client’s funds
  • Ensure compliance with all SSA and MAP Financial policies and procedures in the handling of participant funds
  • Establish relationships with SSA, utility companies, hospitals, banks, credit bureaus and landlords to set up appropriate payment plans and prevent eviction/shut-offs
  • Data entry of daily checks and recurring checks
  • Adheres to the values, principles, and standards of the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Regular and routine attendance as scheduled
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business management (required)
  • 3 years of experience managing finances, including budgeting, bill payment, record-keeping, and financial planning (required)
  • 2 years of experience working with vulnerable populations, such as individuals with disabilities, older adults, or individuals experiencing financial hardship (preferred)
  • Some travel is required
