This position performs research to support the Admissions Testing Services. Conducts literature reviews, background research on medical schools, and other environmental scans. Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of research work in part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. Analyses data, prepares data visualizations, and summarizes results and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborates with members of the Admissions Testing Services unit to support the assessment and application services, preparation products, and research as needed. For the AAMC PREview exam, manages the pool of subject matter experts, including maintaining the SME database, coordinating with the test development vendor on the SME contact information, and tracking recruiting progress. Implements and updates standard operating procedures to support content development for the PREview exam. Designs and executes research to support continuous improvement of the PREview exam. Updates materials to support consistent item development practices are being followed.

How will you make an impact?

Supports Test Content Development

  • Design and complete studies to support PREview exam development, such as critical incident collections with medical schools and students
  • Design and create materials for subject matter expert (SME) activities, including slide decks, training materials, surveys, SME review materials, etc.
  • Manage the SME pool used to support PREview exam development, including recruiting and maintaining a large pool of SMEs, coordinating with contractors, and analyzing and reporting out SME information for recruiting and marketing purposes; summarizing SME information for reports and presentations
  • Review, provide feedback, and edit SJT scenario sets for the SJT exam and/or preparation products, as needed
  • Monitor the SJT item bank to ensure item development, SME review, and form publishing requirements are being captured accurately and in a manner that meet requirements
  • Provide regular reports about the health of the SJT item bank
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures to support PREview exam development activities
  • Conduct quality assurance activities to ensure that forms are accurate

Conduct Research to Support Admissions Services

  • Conduct environmental scans and background research on schools
  • Take notes and prepare briefings to support business development and relationship management with schools
  • Create materials for needs assessment and job analysis surveys, interviews, and focus groups, etc.
  • Create IRB and legal documents required to support work, such as non-disclosure agreements, data usage agreements, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure that all projects are in compliance
  • Conduct and summarize reviews of the academic and practice literature
  • Contribute to design and execution of research, including identifying research questions, methodology, and analytic plan, preparing materials, etc.
  • Support IRB management, including preparing submission materials, managing IRB processes, and monitoring ongoing progress (e.g., progress reports, renewals)

Work with Data

  • Pull, prepare, and analyze data from the AAMC Data Warehouse to answer questions about admissions assessments, as needed
  • Design and program surveys using online survey tools
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to answer questions about the SJT or other assessments, as needed
  • Write and present summaries to the Manager and Director describing and interpreting study results

Develop Data-Based Resources for External and Internal Audiences

  • Create data visualizations, PPT decks, reports and other materials as needed to provide information about admissions assessment to admissions officers, pre-health advisors, and learners
  • Create data visualizations, PTP decks, reports and other materials as needed for Admissions Services leadership to use in briefings with AAMC leadership
  • Create data visualizations, reports, and other materials as needed for AAMC external partners and committees, including Technical Advisory Committees
  • Contribute to manuscripts that will be submitted to peer-reviewed publications

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Minimum related work experience of 3 to 5 years of work experience
  • Master’s degree desired
  • Field of Study: Higher education, educational measurement, industrial
  • Skill in managing project timelines. Raises issues appropriately. Identify sources of problems and recommend solutions.
  • Time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple, critical tasks while maintaining a high level of service and attention to detail and adhering to a strict schedule.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills necessary to communicate with a wide variety of partners including AAMC staff and constituents.
  • Demonstrates maturity, tact, and sound judgment in dealing with AAMC staff and constituents.
  • Able to work in a consensus-based decision-making environment.
  • Strictly observes AAMC policies regarding confidentiality of information and personally identifiable information.
  • Advanced skills in the full suite of Microsoft Office products, Windows, and database environments. Intermediate skill in Excel to perform work such as data analysis, formulas, report design.
  • Beginner to intermediate skill with statistical software, such as SPSS, SAS, or R


 

Remote Work Eligibility

This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US

Compensation Grade Range and Mid-Point

Grade Range:$85,000.00 - $157,800.00/ Grade Mid-Point:$121,400.00

The above annual compensation range and mid-point are general guidelines. For candidates who meet the criteria, the AAMC's compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
