Overview

Interested in leading the Quality Laboratory Analysis team for USSTC Richmond manufacturing of Helix Innovations' products, both domestic and International? If so, we want to speak with you!

We are currently seeking a Senior Scientist II to build analytical and laboratory capabilities at USSTC in Richmond, VA.

In this role you'll serve to fulfill business objectives on behalf of manufacturing and/or regulatory requirements; maintain laboratory system infrastructure; oversee day to day activities of the Quality Analytical Laboratory; develop, implement, and support analytical methods validation and execution and instrument validation; support production batch release, production improvements, regulatory requirements, validation, verifications, and qualification activities, as well as development and /optimization of novel product and process control methods for USSTC Richmond manufacturing; support product stability analyses, as needed; and support computer systems validation and data integrity initiatives.

What you will be doing: • Develop and implement studies to generate scientific insights applicable to the development and optimization of our current and future production processes• Evaluate production and analytical data to identify trends and signals while assuring conforming processes• Communicate relevant investigative information as needed to internal and external departments• Provide direct factory support and instrument troubleshooting pertaining to batch acceptance and in process testing (GC, LC, MS, IC, Particle Size, pH, OV, etc.)• Provide technical guidance and instruction to contract resources relative to new methods, problem solving, and instrument troubleshooting• Work cross-functionally with various enterprise-wide partners addressing method development and validation, regulatory approaches, and harmonization of standard methodologies• Collaborate with Altria Client Services, Quality Compliance/Regulatory Affairs and USSTC Quality Analytical Laboratory Services relative to the conformance of laboratory operations as defined by internal quality requirements• Implement and maintain electronic systems to support compliance to analytical data integrity efforts• Provide leadership and direction to laboratory personnel accompanied by the review of generated analytical results to assure conformance to production requirements• Train laboratory personnel on test methods, laboratory safety, and lab tasks• Develop and deliver technical data presentations• Develop and support Statistical Process Control (SPC) charting and reporting efforts for laboratory data• Build organizational capability and support an environment of continuous improvement keeping abreast of new developments in analytical chemistry, statistics, and related fields• Provide contingency support for USSTC Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) administration and Non-Product Related Material (NPRM) analysis and investigation• Provide systems development and direction to support impending TPMPs, including response to internal and external audit/investigation/inspection observations

What we want you to have: • BA/BS in Chemistry with 5+ years applicable industrial experience, Master's in science preferred. Minimum 3 years leadership experience in a laboratory environment. Individuals with strong knowledge of chromatography systems, regulatory requirements, data integrity, statistical, and computer science backgrounds including relevant experience in a production environment are encouraged to apply.• Technical knowledge and skills to include, but not limited to: Gas Chromatography, HPLC, Densitometer, Auto-refractometers, LCMS, GCMS, NIR, FTIR and other standard analytical instrumentation.• Experience working under a Quality Management System (QMS)• Experience in implementing laboratory safety policies and regulations (e.g., ASTM, GLP/GMP, etc.)• Knowledge of proposed TPMPs (or other regulated industry manufacturing practices)• Strong statistical and computing skills. Experience with data visualization software packages (e.g. Tableau) is also desirable.• Ability to lift upwards of 50 lbs. and work in a dusty environment• Ability to travel domestically and potentially internationally
