Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Metrics Platform team to build various metrics capabilities on top of the Mediawiki Platform that powers Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, and several other Wikis. As an engineer on this team, you will be responsible for ensuring that Mediawiki enables feature teams to add instrumentation and metrics that allow them to understand how their features are being used and how to make them better. You will also build A/B experimentation capabilities that will aid the Product department in choosing between different variants of features and make data-driven decisions.

You are responsible for:

• Gathering requirements from Product stakeholders
• Building metrics and instrumentation capabilities
• Building A/B experimentation capabilities
• Maintaining libraries in several languages that provide these capabilities

Skills and Experience:

• Fullstack web development experience with especially strong PHP backend experience
• A strong understanding of web technologies (HTTP, CDNs, caching)

Qualities that are important to us:

• The ability to work together with several other teams.
• The ability to work with a legacy codebase and reduce technical debt as you make progress.

Additionally, we’d love it if you have:

• An understanding of statistical hypothesis testing.
• Experience with Kafka.
• Understanding or experience in working with data pipelines.
• Understanding or experience with optimizing the performance of websites at scale
