General Purpose:

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for architecting, planning, implementing, and maintaining new and existing systems and infrastructure. They ensure reliability, scalability, supportability, and security of the firm's cloud-based and physical infrastructure and application solutions. The Senior Systems Engineer uses their advanced technology and automation skills to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving technologies, while relentlessly pursuing opportunities to advance our operational effectiveness and increase end user satisfaction and system availability.

They will also work closely with departmental teams in the planning, implementation, and support phases of business and technology projects as well as the day to day administration of existing systems. These activities include, but are not limited to, the definition of requirements, benefits analysis, technical strategy, research & development, technical analysis and design, planning, and support of operations staff in implementing, testing and deploying technology solutions.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Architect, build, support a hybrid IT environment including but not limited to physical/virtual servers, storage, networking, applications, monitoring, security, and cloud services
  • Evaluate the need for information technology solutions across the firm, develop proposals, and present solutions to department managers for acceptance
  • Day-to-day management of the company's systems, including implementation, administration, architecture, and design including administration and documentation of those systems
  • Identify ways to improve stability, scalability, and performance of systems and infrastructure
  • Leverage existing and emerging technologies to develop solutions that improve the performance of the overall systems and infrastructure of the company
  • Participate in asset management lifecycle including procurement, inventory tracking, utilization, and disposition of hardware and software
  • Review, create, and maintain support documentation including documenting operational processes
  • Monitor system health and troubleshoot, resolve, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Ensure security best practices are used to protect systems and infrastructure
  • Schedule and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, and reconfigurations
  • Develop a deep understanding of industry trends and competitive advantages
  • Maintain current and thorough knowledge of modern technologies
  • Create and maintain documentation with a focus on detail
  • Plan for and implement disaster recovery/business continuity solutions
  • Act as a technical escalation point and provide Level 3 support for network related issues and requests
  • Assist and train Support Technicians and other IT staff on the troubleshooting and resolution of system issues
  • Partner/collaborate with application and security teams to develop a secure technical environment
  • Document, track and monitor issues via ticket tracking system to ensure a timely resolution
  • Work independently and under the supervision of the Senior Systems Manager
  • Work with 3rd party vendors and outside consultants as business needs require
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
  • Works as part of an on-call rotation

Job Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certification):

  • Bachelor's in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or other relevant degree and at least 8 years IT experience implementing and/or administering Windows based systems in an enterprise environment or,
  • Additional experience may substitute for the Bachelor's Degree, including Associates Degree and at least 10 years of the above mentioned IT experience, or High School Diploma and at least 12 years of the above mentioned IT experience
  • At minimum 1 current technical certification(s) (MCSE, ITIL, CCT Data Center, VCP, etc.)
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience implementing and/or administering Windows environments in an enterprise environment
  • Minimum 8 years in the implementation of cloud technologies and an understanding of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS models
  • Hands on software and hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Working technical knowledge of network, server and storage infrastructures
  • Experience with the administration of core infrastructure systems, including virtual servers, storage (file and block level), backup, print services, and the hardware associated with them
  • Experience configuring and managing enterprise data protection platforms (Veeam, Zerto, CommVault, etc.)
  • Experience working in a compliant environment (PCI, HIPPA, ISO, etc.)
  • Ability to automate processes with scripting (PowerShell, Python, etc.)
  • Familiar with configuration management tools (Microsoft SCCM, DSC, etc.)
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare/Hyper-V including vCenter, ESXi, DRS
  • Experience with Windows Server technologies (Clustering, Storage Pools, IIS, DFS, etc.)
  • Experience with Active Directory (GPOs, OUs, ADFS, Sites and Services, etc.)
  • Experience with various storage technologies and vendors (NAS, SAN, HPE, NetApp, etc.
  • Experience with data management and storage protocols (CIFS,SMB,NAS,Block,etc.)
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, vRealize, PRTG etc.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational abilities, ability to prioritize and follow up on open issues and projects with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the business including peers, technical management, and/or external vendors
  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other IT staff
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee must have the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of at least fifty (50) pounds; have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on a computer and/or related office equipment; speak clearly and concisely so listeners can understand; and regularly understand the speech of another person.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard for extended periods of time. Also, stoop and kneel to access record files
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work and reading documents
  • Light to moderate lifting is required
  • Ability to uphold the stress of traveling and withstand moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, printers, and traffic)
  • Regular, predictable in-person attendance is required
  • Ability to work in a confined area

Holland & Hart offers of employment take into consideration a candidate's education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. Colorado Salary Range - $101,935 - $169,891/year. A discretionary bonus may be available based upon performance. The application window is anticipated to close on or after December 12, 2023.
