Director, Technical Content Development and Localization

What You Will Be Doing

In this team role, you will be responsible for researching and writing technical documentation about ChargePoint charging station hardware and software for global audiences. Your ability to work cross-functionally between engineering, support, testing, and product management is essential. You will work alongside other writers, trainers, and illustrators to produce installation, site design, service, and software guides for internal and external audiences worldwide. You will maintain document revision control for output in print and online across multiple languages. Learning the products deeply will allow you to ensure consistency and clarity across all documentation.

What You Will Bring to ChargePoint

  • Produce technical content to install, use and service ChargePoint products (hardware and software)
  • Create content that is scalable and can be easily translated into multiple languages
  • Able to learn complex technical products quickly and produce technical documentation with the assistance of subject matter experts
  • Partner with Technical Illustrators to create renderings and video that will be integrated into technical publications
  • Perform all phases of technical publication content development, including planning and research, design, writing, editing, embedding illustrations, and publishing
  • Manage content through revision control, translation, and file management
  • Improve and maintain the documentation by continually reviewing, keeping up to date on released features
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure consistency and transparency across all documentation

Requirements

  • Minimum 4-7 years of technical writing experience in a complex product environment
  • Must have experience documenting hardware assembly and installation at the product level, not just chip or rack level (you must know and care what a torque specification is)
  • Experience with developing topic-based and structured content, understand information architecture principles and content organization, and write for a global audience by default
  • Exceptional proficiency in written English
  • Detail oriented with a systematic and investigative writing process that creates documentation that is accurate, concise, and follows a logical flow
  • Demonstrated ability to learn complex technical products quickly from subject matter experts and translate it into documentation relevant to the target audience
  • Proficient in Adobe FrameMaker; knowledge of other Adobe products a plus
  • Knowledge of XML/DITA or HTML tools, such as oXygen or MadCap Flare
  • Knowledge of photography and image editing software (Photoshop, GIMP, Illustrator, etc.)
  • PC proficiency in MS Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while meeting tight deadlines
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in an environment with competing demands
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with an emphasis on teamwork skills
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience with CMS, LMS and/or TMS a plus
  • Knowledge of API documentation a plus
  • Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, or similar project management tools a plus
