Summary
This position is located in the Office of the Solicitor, Office of General Counsel. The Senior Trademark Legal Counsel serves as a principal litigation strategist and advisor, specializing in trademark law and trademark policy. The role demands initiative and a comprehensive understanding of trademark law and policy, trademark litigation, administrative law, and intellectual property law and policy more broadly, including copyright law, due to the extensive responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications

Experience must have been at a sufficiently high level of difficulty to clearly show that the candidate possesses the required professional/technical qualifications set forth below.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Professional Technical Qualifications (PTQs) for this position are:
- Knowledge of trademark law, rules and procedures in appeals and inter partes cases at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, rules and procedures affecting trademark examination, and related policy issues.
- Ability to oversee and litigate federal court cases on behalf of the USPTO that involve trademark and/or copyright issues, including formulating legal strategies and preparing briefs.
- Ability to communicate, negotiate, and work effectively with representatives from other offices or agencies on trademark-related issues and to advocate for USPTO positions at all levels of engagement.
- Ability to lead a team of attorneys and other professionals who provide advice to agency clients about trademark and copyright law and oversee related litigation.
Education
The candidate must have a law degree from an accredited law school program and must be a member of a bar in good standing, in the United States or a Territory of the United States.

Probationary Period: If selected, you may be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
