Senior UI Designer - Remote
The Allegion Digital Product Design Team is seeking a UI Designer to join us on our mission of transforming users into fans. The UI Designer is responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and delivering user interface components & patterns for Allegion's Multi-Family Access software portfolio and the Allegion design system. In this role you'll be collaborating with development teams responsible for building the components and driving the desirability, accessibility, and usability of our desktop and mobile applications.
What You Will Do:
- Own the UI design for our commercial Multi-Family Access software portfolio, including the creation of new and management of existing UI design elements (including typography & iconography)
- Contribute design standards & components to the design system for use by other Allegion software teams
- Provide detailed (red line) design specifications to development partners as needed
- Partner with developers to ensure design components & patterns they build meet quality standards
- Provide graphical assets required by design and development partners
- Use existing design system/standards to create detailed UI design comps
- Work with Design Research to test components & patterns
- Review designs and advise Interaction and UI Designers on implementation of the design system
- Provide estimates for design deliverables
- Actively participate in design reviews, critiquing the work of other designers, and collecting feedback on your own work
- Participate in Agile ceremonies with product teams (stand-ups, demos, retrospectives)
- Ensure product teams have any design documentation required to complete their work
- Work with teammates to prioritize product backlogs and your workload
What You Need to Succeed:
- BA/BS in a digital/graphic design, or related degree program (e.g. UX design, digital media, human computer interaction) and/or at least 3+ years combo of experience & education
- A strong portfolio of work that showcases specific examples of completed software applications, prototypes, and user interface designs (major bonus points for mobile UI examples and telling the story of the user needs, success metrics, and what you learned along the way)
- A track record of successfully working with remote teams (this position is primarily remote, collaborating with teams across US Mountain, Central, and Eastern time zones)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Expertise with modern digital design and prototyping methods & tools including Adobe XD
- Deep understanding of modalities, design patterns, and affordances common among digital applications (primarily web + native mobile)
- Project management skills, e.g. organization, time management, planning, negotiation
- You're current with the latest design tools, processes, trends, and technology
- You don't have to be a professional programmer, but you do have a solid grasp of programming concepts and how technology influences design & vice versa
- Experience working with Agile teams & Lean methodologies
- You're an experienced UI Designer with a track record of working with Agile Scrum teams to create sleek and usable interfaces for desktop and mobile applications
- You have experience and a point of view on how to effectively deliver a corporate design system that enables product teams to efficiently & consistently build out user interfaces across multiple software portfolios
- You have excellent taste and a passion for branding, imagery, iconography, accessibility, typography, and the aesthetics of design
- You sweat the small stuff and care deeply about design details that may be barely perceptible to others while still understanding that perfect is the enemy of good
- You're an excellent communicator, have a growth mindset, bring an upbeat attitude, and enjoy working alongside a diverse team of Interaction Designers, Design Researchers, Product Owners, Developers, and Business Stakeholders to design innovative UI solutions that promote usability and improve customer confidence and satisfaction
- You're open to sharing work in progress and great at receiving & sharing feedback on design work
- You're action-oriented and understand that putting functional software into users' hands is the best way to validate our hypotheses
- You want to work with a great and supportive team that cares about design, our mission, and each other
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- Experience designing native mobile applications at scale within or for a large enterprise
- Familiarity with Design Thinking principles
- Solid understanding of Android and iOS human interface guidelines
