  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including:
1) Performing layout, fabrication, assembly, repair, and installation of a variety of sheet metal items, such as ducts, flashing, safety guards, sink tops, drain boards, and components and parts for air conditioning, heating, and ventilating systems;
2) Using mathematics to calculate irregular angles, curves, and pitch;
3) Fabricating sheet metal items having combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes;
4) Interpreting and complying with technical publications related to the Sheet Metal Mechanic Trade; and
5) Using a variety of hand, power, measuring and layout tools to perform work on sheet metal.

PHYSICAL EFFORT.
Work assignments may require continuous exertion while bending, shaping, constructing large/bulkier items. The work may involve climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, standing on concrete or metal surfaces, and working in confined spaces for prolonged periods. May lift parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds with the aid of mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers.

WORKING CONDITIONS.
Work is normally performed indoors. Some work may be performed outdoors. May be exposed to vibrations and extremes of heat, cold, and inclement weather. Dirt, dust, grease, solvents, and aircraft fluids may be common in the work place. Work involves the possibility of cuts, bruises, muscle strains, and injuries from falls from scaffolds or ladders or from lifting equipment. May be exposed to fumes and high-pressure air and fluids. May be required to wear appropriate safety gear such as protective eyewear.
