Our core product is fare collection and back-office solutions for transit agencies, so that the transit agencies receive low-cost solutions with high-intelligence of the products and services delivered.

As Cubic expands further in Europe and the Asia-Pacific, we will require additional sophistication in our Payments and fare collection. We will be achieving licenses and certifications in new regions, and operating under PSD2 in Europe. We are modernizing to include Open Banking and Instant Payments. This Payments Architect role will focus on card-not-present and alternative payments in those regions and with several acquirers (we currently work with Fiserv, Chase Paymentech, Elavon, FIS/Worldpay, Barclays, American Express Direct, MPGS, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and Auckland Savings Bank. As instant payments become more prevalent, this Payments Architect will help drive that adoption within CTS.

Job Details:

The Payments Architect will envision and design solutions to meet both Cubic's business needs for payment processing while making the financial systems of our customers more efficient. The incumbent will play a critical role interfacing with traditional banks and card brands, emerging payment technologies, and our transit agency customers to mediate optimum outcomes. The incumbent will shape the engineering solutions we deliver to our customers to meet the problem space, while influencing the strategy and vision of our payment solutions for success. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Researches the latest in industry trends along with the needs of the organization while also being a strong advocate for flexible and robust technology
  • Drives integration and adoption of instant payments within our payment gateway.
  • Monitors fee structures for a variety of regions and Payments types.
  • Drives efficiency in our Payments, for both speed and cost.
  • Drives Cubic profitability through steering Payments and minimizing net fees paid.
  • Drives feature development to be as consistent as possible for our operating regions (EU, UK, US, APAC), but when necessary, splits off features that are only applicable in smaller regions, while keeping the feature non-interfering with core.
  • When acting adaptively, balance a sense of where Payments are evolving, and awareness of the relevant emerging business opportunities, to pivot development to maintain a close fit to our purpose.
  • Strategizes broadly across Cubic; recommend new products and services to meet growing and changing requirements and consult with peer groups in the development of project plans and architectures.
  • Provides architectural direction, 3rd party vendor evaluations, analysis of external party integration, detailed estimation, schedule development, assess resourcing needs during proposal & bids, part of existing programs or R&D efforts.
  • Leads creation of and is accountable for system design documentation, including enterprise architectures, feature designs and interface specifications.
  • Oversees detailed technical designs created by development teams.
  • Analyzes customer requirements (functional and non-functional); participates in requirements capture meetings and workshops with customers as necessary.
  • Participates in the training and monitoring of less-experienced members of the department as necessary. Mentors development, operations and program team members on architecture topics (e.g., issues, directions, guidelines, principles, etc.).
  • Ability to drive technical designs to consensus and approval.
  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by the supervisor/manager from time to time, as may be reasonably required of them.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Four-year college degree (BS or BA) in computer science, engineering or related field plus 10 years of related experience or advanced degree with 8 years of related experience. MBA Preferred.
  • Experience with a modern Payments gateway or mobile app preferred, but relevant experience with an issuer, acquirer, or global card brand also acceptable.
  • Demonstrates expertise and leadership in working with business units, product management, development and operations staff to architect innovative solutions that meet the requirements with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability, realistic implementation schedules and adherence to architectural goals and principles.
  • Ability to synthesize conclusions from research, compare various solutions and plot complex technology roadmaps.

(Colorado only*) Targeted full-time salary range between $120,504. - $140,912. + benefits.

(New York **) Targeted full-time salary range between $134,296 - $196,544 + benefits.
