Our ideal candidate will lead a team of software developers who build the applications that run our business and the integrations to third-party services we leverage. We’re focused on improving quality in our systems both technically and to our end users. Our internal systems are built in Ruby on Rails with interprocess communication in Kafka. We leverage services, not micro services. Our focus is on using proven technologies to deliver systems our users rely on to print and ship their magazines to communities across the country.

Interviews for this opening will be conducted over the phone and via video calls. This role will be fully remote.

In a Typical Day, You’ll:

  • Lead, manage, and hold accountable a team of software developers in an agile environment.

  • Manage and execute software development projects from start to finish.

  • Provide technical mentorship to developers through code reviews and coaching.

  • Establish and maintain software development standards, processes, and best practices for delivery of scalable, high-quality software.

  • Provide consultation and risk analysis in the procurement, development, and implementation of software across the entire organization.

  • Assist the Chief Technology Officer with business planning decisions and other needs. 

To Land This Gig, You Need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering (preferred).

  • 3-5 years experience working with Ruby on Rails.

  • The ability to lead and manage a team of software developers.

  • Experience with deployments to AWS, Heroku, or similar programs.

  • SQL database experience (Postgres, MySQL, SqlServer).

  • A team-player attitude with a desire to be part of an organization making a difference in people’s lives.
