The Team (About ECS PD)
The Enterprise Cyber Security Product Development Team is the research and development arm of PayPal’s Enterprise Cyber Security Organization. The team is tasked with building & maintaining best in class security platforms (such as crypto, SOAR - Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response, fraud prevention and attack mitigation) that keep PayPal and millions of users safe online. As PayPal continues its march towards a billion active users, the demand for resilience and scale from the team’s products has never been greater. ECS Product Development teams are structured to excel through collaboration and by supporting each other.Â

The Role (Job Description Summary)

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Enterprise Cyber Security Crypto team, you will be responsible for building the next generation of cryptography & security products that support our ever-growing digital payments & wallet products in the cloud. You will be making key technology decisions, building & maintaining large production grade distributed systems, collaborating with other senior engineers and managers to envision systems that will keep PayPal and our customers safe well into the future. Mentoring other engineers is an important success criterion for this role.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Anchor major team initiatives to build and improve high impact distributed security and crypto systems, grow the scale of our products, reduce complexity, and burn down technical debt
Develop solutions that bring industry leading security and crypto practices to PayPal and that solve the needs of our customers and compliance teams with an eye towards self-service products backed by efficient operations
Mentor & grow other software engineers · Be ready to exercise pair programming to deliver high quality output
Lead detailed code-reviews and provide constructive feedback to team-mates
Leverage agile processes & practices to ensure the highest levels of operational resiliency & security standards
Collaborate with leadership, peers, product & program management, and customers to effectively to deliver solutions and projects
Support production systems 24/7 (Team rotation based)
Lead Blameless Postmortems for production incidents
Own products & services and delight customers everyday
Be kind and help others
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
5+ years of experience in software engineering, programming with Java, NodeJS, Python or Go
Design and Operational Experience with large scale production grade secure distributed systems
Knowledge of Applied Cryptography (Symmetric/Asymmetric Keys Algorithms, certificates, TLS)
Comfortable with multi-threaded applications and development of REST based APIs
Good Linux skills and understanding of the operating systems
Good working knowledge of data structures, algorithms, software design & patterns
Clean development practices including writing extensive unit & functional test cases (that also cover non-functional requirements like security, availability and performance) and using Continuous integration and deployment practices right from the beginning.
Nice to have (Don’t worry if you don’t have these skills. You can always learn these skills after joining us)
Understanding of AWS or GCP technologies
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Experience with monitoring/logging tools and best practices
Experience with OpenSSL Libraries
Experience with C++
