Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a Software Engineer II to join our Outbound Science & Technology team in Seattle and Boston. As a key member of a diverse and dynamic engineering team, you will build scalable services, frameworks, and machine learning models that enhance our customers’ delivery experience and optimize Chewy’s fulfillment operations. In this role, you will maximise your technical expertise to deliver robust engineering designs and implementations that align with business objectives. Additionally, you will collaborate with scientists to develop machine learning models addressing critical challenges in our fulfillment networks.

- Design, and develop large-scale distributed systems with large volumes of data focusing on scalability, latency, and fault tolerance.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following standard methodologies in software engineering. Ensure that all code is well-documented and undergoes thorough peer review.
- Advocate for and implement software engineering standard processes that enable automated testing, version control and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)
- Partner with machine learning engineers to implement machine learning workflows (including data preprocessing, model training, and deployment) using AWS cloud (such as Sagemaker).
- Leverage and champion operational excellence that enable system obsevebility and alarming. Â Continuously measure system availabity and optimize system performance
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including scientists, product managers, and operations partners, to deliver effective solutions that meet business objectives.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science, Engineering or related field) or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years of professional software development experience
- Ability to program in Java, Python, or other related modern programming language
- Understanding of CI/CD pipeline including containerization, configuration management, and deployment
- Experience leading the design (data structures, algorithms, performance, reliability, and scalability) and development of new software programs
- Experience with cloud native technology stacks such as AWS, Azure, GCP
- Ability to simultaneously support multiple high priority projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Experience designing scalable RESTful services and APIs
- Experience in building distributed, highly available and high-performance systemsÂ
- Experience with Machine Learning workflow including data processing, model training and deploymentÂ
