Software Engineer, Ruby

About the role

As a Software Engineer in the I Heart Ruby team, you'll work with one of the leaders of the Ruby community on the practice of software engineering using Ruby at Chime. The team’s focus is on improving the general Ruby practice, developing and supporting widely used Ruby projects and providing resources for Chime Engineers who are new to Ruby. You will also keep an eye out for new tools and practices that could inform development at Chime.
The I Heart Ruby team is part of a larger Engineering Services organization at Chime, that provides various tools and libraries that allow Engineers to build services more quickly and reliably. 

The ideal candidate will have Ruby experience and a passion to truly become a Ruby expert. If you love coding and you love Ruby, this is an incredible opportunity to uplevel your coding and Ruby expertise, as you are impacting and supporting the entire Ruby Engineering at Chime.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $119,000.00 and up to $165,300.00. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience

In this role you can expect to:

• Work with teams across Chime Engineering to support Ruby-related upgrades
• Create and maintain tooling that supports common Ruby processes across Chime
• Own the release process and roadmap for the main common Ruby gem
• Help with ongoing work to make performance improvements easier
• Help with onboarding for Ruby developers
• Help creating ongoing Ruby learning opportunities that bridge the gap between onboarding and Chime practice

To thrive in this role, you have:

• Significant experience in Ruby and Rails, and more to the point, you are enthusiastic about learning and teaching Ruby tools
• Experience teaching and mentoring
• Some presence in the external Ruby community is a plus
• Knowledge of related technologies in use at Chime, including Google Protobufs, Twirp, MySQL and PostgreSQL is a plus.
