Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Hubbell Utility Solutions (HUS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HUS is also deeply engaged in product solutions for the Utility Communications and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) space and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HUS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HUS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas, and water industries.

HUS has four business units. Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) is our electrical components and infrastructure business. Aclara is our AMI and Meters business and also includes an installation business. Hubbell Gas Connectors and Accessories (HGCA) sells connectors and accessories for the repair, replacement and refurbishment of natural gas systems. Our fourth business is our Protection and Controls business which is our newest business initiative to drive substation communications, control and protection solutions. Position Overview

Senior Hardware Engineer will be a part of the engineering team which develops and supports complex embedded hardware products in the area of communications and protection for the electric utility market.

The individual in this position should be able to perform all aspects of hardware development work under the guidance of senior team members.

This individual must interface with other cross-functional teams, such as software development group, sales/marketing and production for various development and support activities.

The individual must be familiar and should have a proven track record of working with a wide range of state-of-the-art circuits comprised of microprocessors and their support devices, DSP's, FPGA's, high-speed analog devices, communication interfaces, power supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities• Circuit design, hardware verification and validation of new products, both by hands-on effort and in assistance to other team members. Responsibilities range from component/circuit design and review, through layout supervision and review, to prototype bring-up, testing and documentation.• Write detailed SOW documents outlining Hardware Design requirements for offshore teams.• Work with offshore teams on weekly basis to make progress on the tasks/projects, resolve their technical queries to keep things moving in the right direction. • Be passionate and proficient in contributing to design reviews on various circuit and board designs.• Perform hardware verification tests, support system verification tests under guidance of senior team members.• Develop methods to instrument signals in units under tests, using hard connections or utilizing FPGA access or similar methods.• Load embedded software images on prototypes, maintain adapters and pods, and document methods for other team members and production.• Interface with production team to arrange and to track development/test rework.• Troubleshoot prototypes in bring-up phase and afterwards, to assist in identifying design or manufacturability problems.• Work with considerable sense of urgency and juggle multiple hardware related tasks/assignments at the same time.

Skills and Experience• BSEE degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience working with digital and analog components in a design or support role.• Must be proficient in design, analyzing and troubleshooting of circuits comprised of microprocessors and their support devices, DSP's, FPGA's, high-speed analog devices, communication interfaces, and power supplies.• Proficiency with schematic capture tools required, with board layout tools desirable.• Experience with Ethernet hardware (MAC, PHY, Switches)• Experience with Xilinx and Actel FPGA design and development tools .• Ability to perform minor rework (such as replacing passive SMT components)• Must be self-motivated and capable of handling numerous concurrent activities.• Must be a strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Experience with any of the following a plus:

o Power supply design

o RF Amplifier design

o Analog filter design

o Ethernet backplane design

o Experience with TDM communications and telecomm interfaces (voice, synchronous/asynchronous data)
