Senior Data Engineer - Snowplow
We are looking for a skilled Senior Data Engineer- Snowplow with a proven track record implementing Snowplow telemetry systems, and designing custom event schemas. As a Senior Data Engineer at Mythical Games, you’ll take charge operationalizing bleeding-edge data models using Snowplow + dbt and architect the process framework for a long term, standardized telemetry system at Mythical Games.
You’ll work in close collaboration with analysts, engineers, product managers, and designers to gather requirements and implement a scalable framework that fits into the workflows of both data analysts and application developers, and guide its direction as a feature of our platform SDK.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement tooling and process framework supporting cross-functional development teams integrating various open source Snowplow trackers into Mythical’s suite of applications, using a toolkit including Python, Airflow, dbt, and BigQuery
- Refine best practices, standards, and cross-team processes for custom event schema design on per-application, per-category, and all-up levels
- Develop datasets and models on top of custom event telemetry using dbt to meet the requirements of analysts and key stakeholders; optimizing query compute and data storage patterns for cost and performance
- Own issue tracking and alert monitoring related to Snowplow services, implement automated systems to proactively respond to known issues, and work to resolve other critical issues with event collection as they arise
Required
- 3+ years of experience working in a data or analytics engineering roles
- 1 or more end-to-end technical implementation of Snowplow infrastructure & trackers
- Deep knowledge of custom event and entity schema design, and experience data modeling against one-big-table using dbt
- Proficiency with object-oriented programming, REST APIs, Python, and distributed SQL queries
- Experience working with large, unstructured datasets using partitioned cloud storage architecture using query engines such as Spark, Delta Lake, or Trino
Preferred
- Exposure to any/some/all of the following: Looker (LookML), Docker, CI/CD systems
- Experience administering a cross-section of GCP [or AWS] cloud services such as Cloud Functions, Datastream, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Compute Engine, etc
- Interest in blockchain technology and video games
The expected hourly range for this 6 month contract is based on the location where the employee’s work will be performed and is aligned to one of our three compensation pay range tiers.
Pay Ranges by Tier:
Tier 1 - $70 - $96 USD per hour
Tier 2 - $63 - $87 USD per hour
Tier 3 - $56 - $77 USD per hour
Locations by Tier:
Tier 1 Locations: San Francisco Bay Area - California
Tier 2 Locations: Remainder of California (outside of the SF Bay Area), Washington state, Massachusetts state, New York state
Tier 3 Locations: All other states outside of California, Washington, Massachusetts, and New York.
The hourly rate for each successful applicant will be dependent on a variety of factors, including work location, education, qualifications, competencies, relevant work experience, business needs, and market demands. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual hourly rate could fall outside of this expected range. This range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
