Job Description
Carmot Therapeutics, Inc. is a clinical stage biotechnology company dedicated to delivering life-changing therapeutics for people with metabolic diseases. To support this vision, we are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Sr. Scientist or Principal Scientist to work closely with the cross-functional research team members. This individual will lead the in vivo pharmacology efforts to drive discovery to identify new lead molecules, and design and execute mechanistic studies to characterize these compounds and their impact on physiology and pathophysiology. In addition, you will help evaluate literature information and novel assay formats to ensure rapid progress and overall project success. This position requires working closely with scientists in a multidisciplinary team. This role will report to the Sr. Director, Pharmacology.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide scientific and technical hands-on support for research involving in vivo and ex vivo studies in animal models of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, and metabolic related diseases with the goal of progressing novel drug candidates into clinical development and beyond.
- Plan and execute in vivo experiments, develop and follow protocols, document data, troubleshoot problems, interpret data and communicate results, and maintain up-to-date knowledge in the fields.
- Mentor and train junior members to be scientifically and technically proficient.
- Manage studies performed at CROs, evaluate the resulting data, develop technical documents and assist with the preparation and/or review of information supporting regulatory submissions.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Effectively communicate results to team members and collaborators.
Required Experience and Skills
- PhD in Pharmacology, Biology or other related field with relevant post-graduate experience, or MS in the relevant fields with 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience. Title and responsibilities will be based on experience.
- Expertise in animal models of metabolic diseases and deep knowledge in assessing agents developing for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and obesity.
- Experience in rodent surgeries is a plus.
- Excellent scientist with passion for hands-on research and desire to lead from the bench.
- Proficiency in ex vivo experiments and isolation of primary cells.
- Ability to multitask and contribute to several projects while remaining well organized.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to take unique and creative approaches to solve challenging problems.
This is an onsite position in Berkeley and Alameda, CA
