The Navigation Engineering Department is looking for a Sr. Systems Engineering Manager to lead the Navigation Systems team. The Navigation Engineering Department in Melbourne, Florida is the home of the GNSS center of Excellence as well as avionics navigation equipment portfolio that includes several navigation product-lines such as GLU-2100, which is the industry's leading multi-mode receiver, digital Radio Altimeters, GPS receivers, Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), Automatic Directional Finder (ADF) - These navigation receivers are installed in both Air Transport as well as Business and Regional aircraft platforms. This role is located ONSITE/HYBRID in Melbourne, FL with relocation available.

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, retain, and develop the Navigation Systems engineering team
  • Proactively and empathetically addresses employee performance and development issues
  • Acquires and develops Systems Engineers, building a strong team of motivated and passionate talent
  • May serve as the primary engineering focal point to our customers
  • Development and technical coaching of team members
  • Provide strategic input on technology roadmaps, investments in innovation, and product improvements across the Collins NAV portfolio
  • Ensures compliance to development processes and standard work requirements
  • Oversees and participates in development of engineering bids and proposals
  • Mentoring and guiding complex Root Cause and Corrective Action Item resolution with the Systems Engineering team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience OR
  • In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident "Green Card" Holder
  • Hands-on knowledge of project/program engineering practices and a heavy emphasis on continuous improvement leading to highly efficient and productive engineering teams
  • Strong technical leader that has driven large scale projects across multiple teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
  • Extensive technical knowledge of avionics product development
