Job Description

Global Science & Technology, Inc (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, is seeking a SST Scientist with HPC skills to support the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR).

This position is located in College Park, MD but is temporarily approved for telework due to Covid-19. A hybrid model of onsite and telework each week will likely be put in place in the coming months.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will work with a group of scientists and software developers at the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) under the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR).

Primary Duties:

  • Development of efficient (memory usage and speed) code, taking advantage of the latest hardware (e.g., GPU, parallel file systems)
  • Work with scientists and software developers to implement code in a high-performance computing /cluster environment.
  • Capture and document requirements and code developed from the requirement.
  • Contribute to the scientific data analyses in the group.
  • Read, modify and enhance the existing legacy code.
  • Developer for HPC Applications
  • Programming knowledge of MPI, Open MP, OpenACC
  • Experience with batch jobs (crontabs, scripts) and version control software (e.g., CVS, GIT
  • Solid quantitative background
  • Excellent teamwork, strong inter-personal, communication, and analytical skills.

    DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in parallel (cluster) file systems (e.g., BeeGFS, lustre, gfs2, cfs, PVFS, or parallel NFS)
  • Working knowledge of physics based radiative transfer theories.
  • Good knowledge of Intel compilers and tools (e.g., profiler and debugger).
  • Knowledge of GPU technology in a high-performance computing environment.
  • Knowledge of remote sensing, satellite & oceanographic data, systems, and analyses

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • 8-10 years of experience with scientific/technical programming
  • Proficiency with Linux/Unix OS; Excellent programming skills in Fortran 2003/2008, C/C++, IDL, Perl/Python, and shell scripting
