Job Description
Non-profit Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and committed Non-Profit Organization Accountant to manage our financial operations. The candidate will be responsible for recording and analyzing financial transactions, preparing reports, budgets, tax returns, and ensuring the organization’s financial compliance.
Our ideal candidate possesses a thorough understanding of financial principles and laws governing non-profit organizations. They should have strong analytical skills and the ability to present complex financial information in a concise and understandable manner.
Responsibilities
• Prepare and maintain financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts
• Manage and prepare financial statements for each program to ensure compliance, budgeting, and filing of reports
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
• Assist in budget preparation and management
• Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws and regulations
• Coordinate and complete annual audits
• Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting
• Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
• Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
• Coordinate with external auditors and manage internal controls
• Assist in strategic planning and decision making at the managerial level
• Keep track of donations, grants and other forms of funding
• Ensure all financial operations align with the organization’s bylaws and non-profit status regulations
• Report to the executive director regarding all matters fiscal and project/program specific.
• All assigned tasks per the direction of executive director
Qualifications
• Proven work experience as a Non-Profit Organization Accountant or similar role
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and legislation
• Experience with accounting software, like Quickbooks, Tradogram, and Abila
• Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
• Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information
• BSc degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is a plus
Additional Information
• Work Environment:Office setting. Some travel may be required for team meetings or client consultations.
• Reporting Structure:Reports to the Executive Director.
• Salary:Salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as grant and business considerations.
• Pay Range:$40,000 minimum to $45,000 maximum
