Job Summary:
The Nurse Informaticist position, in the Department Nursing Professional Practice and Development (NPPD), is responsible for integrating nursing science with multiple information and analytical sciences to identify, define, manage, and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice. The Nurse Informaticist supports nurses, consumers, patients, the interprofessional healthcare team, and other stakeholders in their decision-making in all roles and settings to achieve desired outcomes. This support is accomplished using information structures, information processes, and information technology. Specifically, the successful candidate would be responsible for analyzing data, defining clinical workflows, operational procedures to support the technical, cultural and process changes necessary for successful implementation and optimization of the electronic health record. This position provides enterprise wide direction for clinical computer systems, devices that interface with Epic, and data management. The Nurse Informaticist serves as a mentor and leader to managers and staff. May manage staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
- The Nurse Informaticist will serve as a liaison between IT and clinical operations, analogous to the liaison role physician informaticists fulfill with the clinical service lines. In fulfilling this role, the Informatics Nurse will provide advice and consultation to clinical leaders regarding informatics-related topics, participate in clinical improvement projects, and ensure that clinical guidelines are reflected in the IT systems.
- The Nurse Informaticist will play a key role, often a lead role, in ensuring that our clinical applications are designed in a manner that supports Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washingtons advanced analytics needs. This will require advanced knowledge of the analytic and registry infrastructure that is available in our IT systems, ability to create proof of concept builds for new initiatives, partnering with technical team members to bring system enhancements from concept to live use, and partnering with data analysts to ensure the clinical validity of key reports.
- Provide clinical oversight and ad hoc clinical consultation to technical team members on topics such as interface design, clinical content decisions, etc.
- The Nurse Informaticist will take a lead role in the design and optimization of clinical decision support including tools in our IT systems as well as tools provided by our content vendors, will develop and maintain the means to assess the ongoing effectiveness of those tools.
- Participate in general clinical informatics work, as well as clinical nursing work that may not always be directly related to informatics.
