Staff Software Engineer - AI for Developer Productivity

Our goal is to amplify the productivity of every Airbnb engineer by tenfold through best in class developer infrastructure. This team is entrusted with the tooling and infrastructure that optimize developer productivity across the entire software development lifecycle stages.

In this role you will spearhead our AI strategy aimed at enhancing developer productivity across our entire development lifecycle. This encompasses AI-based automatic test generation AI-assisted code reviews AI-based code generation for our internal frameworks design to code and AI-assisted migrations among others. Given the rapid evolution of AI this team is expected to function like a startup iterating swiftly to incorporate the most recent AI technologies into our developer tooling.

A Typical Day:

• Shape our AI for Developer strategy and incorporate AI into the daily tools utilized by developers.

• Enhance developer productivity for all engineers at Airbnb. A 20% boost in productivity equates to hiring 20% more developers.

• Develop the technical strategy for Airbnb’s developer infrastructure directly influencing our core metrics (Developer Experience Developer Velocity Debuggability Resilience and Reliability) while reducing costs.

• Collaborate with engineering leaders across Airbnb to facilitate the adoption of new capabilities. Your clientele will comprise all engineers at Airbnb.

• Act as a player/coach of our high-performance team ensuring code quality dedication to the craft and operational excellence.

Your Expertise:

• 12+ years industry experience.

• Extensive experience with developer tooling and platforms. Familiarity with the developer tools frameworks or systems commonly used within the industry is a significant plus.

• Demonstrated experience in applying AI/ML and Generative AI technologies within the context of software development is a huge plus.

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree preferably in CS or equivalent experience

• Proficiency in one or more back-end server languages (Java/Ruby/Go/C++/etc.)

• Experienced in architectural patterns of a high-scale distributed products/services such as well-designed APIs data pipelines and efficient algorithms

• Experience or desire to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams with design product and data science partners

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed to with your manager.
