Job Description

We are looking for a strategy consultant to join our team in Washington, DC. Capstone is a leading advisory firm that advises institutional investors and the world’s largest companies on how public policy affects strategies, companies, and markets. We are seeking an entrepreneurial, experienced strategy consultant to supplement the firm’s commercial due diligence capabilities — helping clients enter new markets, make acquisitions, and otherwise make important business decisions. 

In this client-facing role, you will collaborate with internal teams to conduct due diligence assessments and provide actionable strategies to private equity and corporate clients. The role will require analysts to conduct competitive analysis across various industries and develop tailored strategies for each situation. Our ideal candidate will have exceptional analytical skills and be able to understand and confidently explain complex ideas and business strategies. A successful candidate will be a highly qualified professional with at least 3 years of experience in strategy consulting, commercial due diligence, investment banking, or a related field. 

This position will report to the Head of Private Markets.  

Responsibilities: 
 
As a commercial due diligence VP on our team, you’ll: 

  • Conduct extensive primary- and secondary-source market research to deliver actionable insights and strategy recommendations.  
  • Conduct competitive analysis on markets, sectors, or industries by examining size, trends, growth forecasts, risks, and opportunities. 
  • Utilize analytical skills to develop value propositions and successful go-to-market (GTM) strategies. 
  • Synthesize information quickly across different investment strategies while distilling and articulating findings clearly in written and verbal formats to clients and stakeholders. 
  • Support clients through challenging investment decisions with in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis. 

Qualifications 

Successful candidates will possess the following attributes: 

  • Strong client servicing and interpersonal skills 
  • Effective writing and presentation skills 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a deep understanding of how commercial dynamics affect business strategy 
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently 
  • Passion for combining policy and politics with investing 

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Undergraduate degree with high academic achievement  
  • At least three years of experience working in commercial due diligence, strategy consulting, investment banking or another relevant client-facing advisory role 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, explain, and train others to produce robust private company financial models, valuation assessments, and market sizing (TAM) models 
  • Demonstrated experience conducting and/or managing market research surveys and producing analysis and recommendations based on survey results 
  • Superior proficiency in in MS Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without employer sponsorship
