Big Ass Fans is looking for an experienced Sustaining Engineering Manager with strong leadership skills to lead a team of engineers to improve, simplify, and cost out our current products. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in mechanical or electrical engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and delivering sustaining/ VAVE projects, guiding and influencing cross-functional teams, as well as developing and mentoring your team members. Our product portfolios are continually growing and range from small to Big Ass Fans, and from directional fans to evaporative coolers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers to develop improvements to current products.
  • Provide strong knowledge related to engineering product simplification and product cost take-out, through evaluating new vendors, manufacturing methods, and commonizing platforms.
  • Oversee design, development, and testing of product updates and improvements.
  • Create technical product specifications, provide guidance for DFMEAs on product updates and improvements.
  • Set project goals and timelines and schedules
  • Provide support for building prototypes and verify functionality.
  • Work with other teams to complete product performance testing.
  • Track department budget and provide feedback to key stakeholders.
  • Research and stay up-to-date with industry trends and competitive products and incorporate improvements into your work.
  • Interact with vendors and/or contractors to support the needs of the business.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to team members, helping to develop skills sets and advance engineers' careers.
  • Manage the performance of team members, set performance goals, and conduct performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in sustaining, value engineering, product simplification and cost take-out
  • 3+ years leading and managing engineers or technologists
  • Excellent leadership skills with experience in driving projects to closure
  • Familiarity with new product development processes and tools
  • Excellent documentation practices and communication skills
  • Commitment to maintaining project schedules and delivering tasks on time
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Experience with any or all of the following: design, fans, motors, motor controls, HMI & Solidworks
