Job Summary:
The Systems Engineer will handle the setup, operation, and maintenance of our network and system infrastructure, encompassing both on-premises and cloud environments. This role involves managing cloud infrastructure, configuring systems, deploying patches, implementing security measures, and troubleshooting. The engineer will collaborate with Development Teams to construct robust cloud infrastructure that aligns with NJII's goals and will ensure the secure and efficient operation of computing platforms, servers, and networks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance on network/system infrastructure issues.
- Manage procurement, testing, installation, and support of network equipment and systems (LAN, DMZ, WAN, routers, switches, Access Points, WLAN Controllers).
- Deep understanding and configuration skills for network systems and protocols (e.g., SMTP, SNMP, DNS, NTP, FTP, TCP/IP, NFS).
- Expertise in Azure cloud infrastructure and services (e.g., Azure Web Apps, Virtual WAN, Firewalls, VNets) and Microsoft 365 ecosystem (e.g., Intune, Azure AD).
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and experience with server and desktop systems patching.
- Implement server security, authentication, and single-sign-on systems.
- Conduct audits, support penetration tests, and manage a Microsoft domain environment.
- Lead cloud recommendations and security readiness; implement, manage and secure cloud systems with NJII technical team.
- Define improvements for system security/integrity and respond to regulatory compliance needs (e.g., HIPAA, CIS, NIST).
Additional Duties:
- Develop new alerts/monitoring techniques and recommend solutions for help desk and systems management improvement.
- Coordinate the design and execution of backup and disaster recovery plans.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
- Monitor and manage network/telecom system upgrades, ensuring minimal production impact.
- Evaluate and recommend software and hardware upgrades.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or relevant work equivalent.
- Certifications: CCNA, Microsoft Azure, Sophos (preferred).
- Minimum 4 years hands-on experience in managing Firewalls, Windows, Linux, Server environments, and Microsoft Cloud (Azure, Defender, Sentinel, Endpoint Manager).
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Server, Advanced Networking, and business continuity/disaster recovery.
- Knowledge of Office 365, AD, Exchange, SCCM, and support for AV, hardware, and networking devices.
