JOB SUMMARY

 

 

The Systems Engineer II will be performing project work in addition to assisting the Systems Engineering Manager in leading a team of engineers and technicians supporting various client sites primarily in the states of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Systems Engineer II will also assist with the resource assignment and performance management of the team. The Systems Engineers are responsible for the installation, support, maintenance, monitoring, and tuning of a multitude of infrastructure devices encompassing all infrastructure hardware, & software. The System Engineer II is expected to be subject matter expert in multiple technologies and be able to communicate directly with clients on scheduling, coordination and educational topics related to successful delivery of projects. These individuals will be a "hands on" leader and mentor to other network engineers and technicians.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

  • Strategy & Planning

     

    • Collaborates with client management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term systems engineering needs
    • Creates and maintains internal documentation as it relates to infrastructure configuration, network mapping, processes, and disaster recovery
    • Proactively improves processes and eliminate waste & inefficiency
  • Team Leadership

     

    • Leading and supporting the team to success in achieving stated objectives
    • Understanding of organizational impact from project tasks
    • Develops technical staff skills and encourage growth
    • Provides direction and gain consensus of the team
    • Provides consistent performance feedback
    • Acts as a final point of escalation
  • Acquisition & Deployment

     

    • Assists with the design and deployment of customers' environments, including servers, switches, UPSs, cloud infrastructure, and other hardware
    • Conducts research on cloud infrastructure products, services and standards to remain abreast of developments in the Managed Services industry
    • Oversees new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades for client networks
  • Operational Management

     

    • Works with the Sales team and clients to determine needs and develop scopes of work
    • Oversees team's projects/assignments to configure networks that ensure smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes
    • Oversees and participate with installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices
    • Manages servers; on-premise and cloud infrastructure and their associated operating systems and software
    • Performs server vulnerability remediation and system backup and recovery

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

 

  • 2-year degree in computer science, information systems, or a similar field
  • 5 years' work experience as a Systems Engineer, or 3 years as a Systems Engineer I for EO Johnson Business Technologies

 

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

 

  • 4-year degree in computer science, information systems, or a similar field, or 15 years of experience as a Systems Engineer.
  • Applicable Microsoft, Azure, VMware certifications
  • Experience in Microsoft Identity Management, MSOffice 365 migrations, virtualization, cloud platforms, virtual desktops, distributed file systems, disaster recovery, replication and backup systems
  • Experience in project management practices and principals
  • Previous experience performing IT troubleshooting in a production environment
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, group policy, DNS, DHCP, Windows Server, MS SQL, Oracle
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Cloud products and administration, Azure, MSOffice 365, ADFS, Microsoft Entra Domain Services (Azure "AD")

 

 

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

  • Proven experience with network/infrastructure security principles, and general network/infrastructure management best practices
  • Predominantly Microsoft & VMware server environments
  • Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment

 

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

 

 

  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Maintain a good driving record
  • This position requires driving regularly
  • This position requires infrequent travel throughout the Midwest with the possibility of overnight stays
  • Must live within daily commuting distance of one of the EO Johnson office locations
