Job Title: Hematology Registered Nurse (Hematology RN)** Job Summary:

A Hematology Registered Nurse (Hematology RN) specializes in the care of patients with hematologic conditions, such as blood disorders, anemia, clotting disorders, and malignancies like leukemia or lymphoma. The Hematology RN works closely with hematologists and interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care, manage treatments, and support patients throughout their hematologic conditions and therapies.

• Assess, plan, and provide nursing care to patients with hematologic disorders, including anemia, clotting disorders, bleeding disorders, blood cancers (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma), and other blood-related conditions.
• Administer medications, blood products, and other treatments such as chemotherapy, transfusions, and supportive therapies as prescribed.
• Monitor patients’ response to treatments, track lab values, and manage side effects, including fatigue, nausea, pain, and other complications.
• Collaborate with hematologists, oncologists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment options, medication adherence, and self-management strategies.
• Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and their families, helping them cope with chronic or life-threatening conditions.
• Assist in the coordination of diagnostic tests, blood product administration, and other laboratory-based procedures.
• Document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with regulatory and hospital policies.
• Support patient care transitions, including discharge planning, outpatient follow-up, and referrals as needed.
• Participate in clinical research, education, and quality improvement initiatives related to hematologic care.

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
• Licensure:
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
• Certification:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Certified Hematology Nurse (CHN) preferred.
