Summary
This position is located in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, in the Division of Maintenance and Construction.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately May to March, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year (04/14 /25 to 04/27/25).

- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
- You must possess and maintain a current Class A, (or higher) Commercial Driver's License. Must have this license by the closing date of this announcement.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- Occupancy of government quarters is required.
- If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 3 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or
- (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
Qualifications
Ability to do the work of a Tree Worker (MVO) without more than normal supervision (Screen out): work history demonstrates independent journey person level knowledge in performing tree hazard identification, tree climbing, tree pruning, tree hazard reduction or tree removal. Install rigging systems while tree climbing; and falling a variety of trees to predetermined direction; Operate a variety of trucks, trailers, tractors with backhoe, front end loaders, skid steer loaders and operate a variety of specialty equipment and machines such as compressors, rollers, brush chipper and paint stripers.

Physical Demands: Hazard Tree Abatement: Incumbent must be in good physical condition to lift and operate the different types and sizes of power chain saws with weights up to 50 pounds while falling trees from the ground or from the aerial platform boom bucket. Employee is required to climb trees, often up to heights of 100 feet. Moderate physical effort is needed by this position in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavy loads. Incumbent must have good coordination for moving hands, arms, feet and legs for maneuvering machinery controls in the operation of equipment and attachments as well as manual tasks associated with road maintenance. Heavy physical effort is required for standing for long periods of time as well as for reaching, bending, twisting, walking, and lifting objects in excess of 50 pounds. May require wearing a respirator.
Working Conditions: The incumbent works outdoors during the majority of their tour of duty primarily during daylight hours. Incumbent may work night hours during inclement weather or for emergency response: e.g. rockslides, avalanches, fallen trees, debris, floods, utility excavation, etc. Temperatures range from -10 degrees F to over 100 degrees F. Summer conditions could include dirt, dust, noise, and potential hazards in the form of poisonous plants, insects, wild animals and snakes. Winter conditions include rain, snow, ice, and windblown whiteout/blizzard.
Air Quality: Poor air quality afflicts Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, especially during summer months - generally May to October. High ozone levels may be the most harmful pollutant here.
