VFX Layout Artist

General Summary         
The VFX Layout Artist is responsible for building and maintaining all CG elements that make up a shot in VFX. This position will be responsible for translating 2D storyboards and animatics into accurate 3D camera and object layouts, ensuring seamless integration with on set footage and establishing the foundation for the VFX pipeline.

Job Functions

• Assemble and block CG assets and cameras to create shot composition.
• Reference approved 2D storyboards and visualization assets and environments to inform final camera composition and CG asset staging.
• Establish overall camera continuity between shots within a sequence.
• Experiment with camera composition within shots to achieve best artistic solutions.
• Ensure technical aspects of assets are accurate and ready for downstream consumption.
• Integrate Matchmove cameras into CG environments for sequence and shot composition.
• Manage Previz and Postviz ingestion for shot work.
• Drive communication between VFX Camera, Asset, Animation and Production teams.
• Drive communication in partnership with the Art Department, Previz team, and Post team to ensure coherent shots across all sequences.

Qualifications

• 5 + years of related VFX or Animation industry experience.
• Technical problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of the VFX pipeline.
• A strong sense of composition, cinematic camera work and animation timing.
• Expertise of practical cameras, camera techniques, layout workflows and CG camera lenses and rigs.
• Professional experience with Maya, required.
• Fundamental animation skills, required.
• Experience with digital compositing in Nuke, a plus.
• Attention to detail and having a proactive attitude to identifying and resolving problems, maintaining continuity across shots and sequences.
• Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision under tight deadlines in a multi-tasking environment.
