SUMMARY
In the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Biology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, delivering high quality, safe and equitable health care in the field of obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health is central to the mission of our department.
To that effect, we are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified applicant to serve as Vice Chair for Quality, Safety and Outcomes Equity. This Vice Chair will lead specific departmental efforts related to quality, safety and health equity, working collaboratively with the Chair of the Department, the Division Chiefs, other Vice Chairs, and institutional quality committees at BIDMC and BILH.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee, promote, and facilitate high quality, safe and equitable care across the Department.
The main areas of focus will be:
- Quality Assurance: Oversee and Chair the Quality Assurance Committee (peer review, event reporting, debriefing, peer support)
- Quality Improvement: Oversee departmental quality improvement efforts by proactively identifying and supporting opportunities for improvement.
- Outcomes Equity: Lead departmental efforts focused on health outcomes equity in partnership with Division Chiefs, the Departmental Vice Chair of Equity, Advocacy and Community Engagement, and the Chair
- Safety: Oversee, update and ensure faculty members’ adherence /compliance with departmental Policies, Procedures, Guidelines & Directives (PPGDs)
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and supervise of departmental quality nurse(s)
- Partner with departmental data manager(s) and informaticist(s) to track, measure, and improve health care quality
- Monitor and improve departmental performance on key process and outcome measures
- Use stratified data to ensure any inequities in processes or outcomes are well-characterized and prioritized in ongoing quality improvement efforts
- Work with state Perinatal Quality Collaborative to ensure robust participation in collaborative effort
- Communicate with and educate department faculty, staff and nurses on quality/safety/improvement initiatives
- Serve as liaison to BIDMC health care quality office, including attendance at QI directors, Safety and Quality Oversight Committee, Key Process Indicator meetings and coordinate regulatory response when indicated
- Serve on relevant network (BILH) committees related to health equity and quality/safety
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
- Mid to senior level faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
- Teaching commitment is a minimum of 50 hours per year as part of the Harvard Medical School requirement.
- Candidates should be prepared to manage sensitive and dynamic situations while demonstrating empathy and superior communication skills. They should be prepared to work within and collaborate across the larger and robust quality and safety community at BIDMC and BILH.
- Aspects of this position intersect with other Vice Chair and Divisional Chief positions. Therefore, demonstrated skills in organization, coordination and collaboration are essential.

Academic appointment at Harvard Medical School and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and a commitment to teaching.
