We are seeking a VP of Business Development and Corporate Initiatives who will represent Recursion’s unique platform to diverse external audiences (partners, ecosystem stakeholders, investors) and lead critical transactions that accelerate our mission. As an external face for the company, your work will directly shape our external narrative and how current and prospective partners understand our differentiated approach to drug discovery.  As a leader on our transaction team, your work will be essential to forging win-win partnerships with others in the ecosystem while maximizing the value of Recursion’s platform technology and assets. In your daily work, you interface with colleagues across the Recursion organization (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Clinical, Data Science, Legal, Finance) to align stakeholders and deliver with speed. You will need self-initiative, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to transparently communicate with organization team members at all levels.

In this role, you will:

• Proactively plan for and identify value-creating partnership/acquisition opportunities that maximize the value of the Recursion Operating System and Recursion’s preclinical and clinical-stage portfolio
• Represent Recursion’s industry-leading platform to senior scientific and business leaders across biopharma, biotech, and academic institutions   
• Initiate outreach to business development and licensing counterparts and build enduring relationships on behalf of Recursion
• Collaborate with internal scientific and technical teams (biology, chemistry, data science) to scope and structure research collaborations with industry-leading partners
• Lead negotiation and execution of mission-critical transaction agreements consistent with Recursion’s values

Location:

Making Salt Lake City your home base is ideal, however, we will consider remote work for this position. We ask that remote employees commit to regular on-site visits (e.g. minimum every 4 - 6 weeks) for routine work and departmental events. 

The Team You’ll Join 

In this role, you will be an essential member of the Recursion Corporate Development team reporting to the SVP of Business Development and Corporate Initiatives.  The team is an empowered, execution-minded group of business development, portfolio strategy, and alliance management professionals responsible for broadening Recursion’s platform reach through transformative partnerships, delivering on Recursion’s existing portfolio of R&D collaborations, and maximizing value from our preclinical and clinical stage pipeline.  

The Experience You’ll Need

• BS/BA in life sciences (biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medical) or extensive experience working in a biopharma or biotech organization
• 5+ years of biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience
• 5+ years of experience in business development and licensing with an accessible network of senior BD relationships
• Demonstrated ability leading negotiations and execution of diverse, high-impact sell-side transactions 
• Advanced degree (MBA, PhD, PharmD, JD) strongly preferred
• Familiarity with macro trends and key players in the AI/ML-enabled drug discovery space 
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects efficiently with a high degree of independence

• Membership on Recursion Partnership ‘Sub-Hub’ responsible for new partnership oversight 
• Invitation to attend Decode Recursion - an offsite experience, after you onboard, as a deep dive into Recursion’s Founding Principles and Values  
• Support to learn the Recursion Operating System and how it is the foundation of our partnerships in the first 90 days to ensure quick ramp up
• Option to participate in coaching like BetterUp for leadership skills and development programs 
• Opportunity to attend marquee industry conferences (JPM, BIO) and AI/ML-related workshops

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is:

• Developing: $263,000
• Skilled: $292,000
• Expert: $321,000
