Job Description

Vice President, Human Resources

Red Stag Fulfillment, LLC (“Red Stag”) is an order fulfillment company for eCommerce businesses which is headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, and was created with one mission: to redefine the 3PL experience for both clients and employees. By leveraging technology to ensure accurate, reliable, secure, and fast shipping, we have quickly established ourselves as a world-class fulfillment company — and we’re ready for more.

Red Stag is a unique and special organization. We understand that our Team Members are our most important asset. We have grown into one of America’s best order fulfillment companies by building a team of people who are eager to be a part of our growth. Our Team Members show up and give their all every day. Our core values are of paramount importance and inform and guide all our decisions.

  • We treat others with dignity and respect.
  • We sweat the small stuff.
  • We have positive attitudes.
  • We act like we own it.

We are hiring a Vice President of Human Resources to join our team in our Knoxville, TN office. This is a full-time role, reporting directly to our CFO. For this role, you’ll primarily work at our Knoxville HQ with occasional travel required.

About the role:

The world of e-commerce is moving at lightning speed, and we need a leader who understands the power of people, the influence of culture, and the requirements of scale. Reporting directly to the CFO and serving as a vital member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President of Human Resources will partner with our leadership to create a world-class employee experience for all our team members. The person selected for this position will be responsible for enhancing our existing HR function, advocating for our team members, and driving our aggressive business goals.

You are the one we are looking for if:

You have a heart for people, a brain for business, and a soul for service. You deploy UX/UI level thinking to the employee experience from the first touch in the recruiting pipeline, to the first day of onboarding, to years of subsequent value-adding personal and professional growth. You don’t think employees, you think team members. You balance empathy for the person, with pragmatism for the needs of the business. You’re not scared of double-digit YoY growth, aggressive future goals, and multi-site operations; you’re energized by it (and preferably you’ve lived it before). You rely heavily on data to guide planning and decision-making, even though you recognize there are times for gut calls. You have implemented and managed benefits programs, and you’re eager to explore more non-traditional offerings that will provide holistic value to our team members in exchange for their particular contributions to our business. You love to use and manage technology (e.g., HCM), but ultimately you recognize it’s not an end unto itself – it’s a tool to maximize your influence and value within our company. You recognize that life and work are more enriching with diverse viewpoints at the table. You passionately believe that building a leadership pipeline is the key to curating a sustainable culture.

You are seeking an opportunity to join a rapidly growing company and be part of the leadership team responsible for serving and growing the business. Because of this you aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves, get up to speed quickly, and do whatever it takes to get the job done. If you are more comfortable with someone directing your day-to-day activity — i.e., telling you exactly what to do — then this is not the position for you. But, if you like the idea of diving right in, getting stuff done, and actively growing in new areas, then this might be your perfect fit.

Expected Outcomes and Responsibilities:

  • Help to define and drive our overall business vision, strategy, and execution in collaboration with other key executives.
  • Rigorously measure your team’s performance and our overall people operation through a matrix of robust but sensible KPIs, and then have the vision, judgment, and decisiveness to adjust when necessary.

Strategic Leadership and Organizational Development

  • Develop comprehensive employee care and total reward strategy to attract and retain the best (talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, compensation, and benefits administration).
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in HR and implement relevant strategies within the organization.
  • Create and lead employee engagement initiatives and programs that will illustrate, personify, and reinforce our culture.
  • Partner with leadership to create and administer relevant, value-adding training, as well as a leadership development system that will prepare our team members for their next step inside (or outside) our organization.
  • Partner with leadership to identify, spec out, test, de-bug, and launch new solutions to better serve our team members.
  • Along with executive/senior leadership, be chiefly accountable for developing a best-in-class employee experience at Red Stag.
  • Develop metrics and reporting to support decision-making by the executive/senior leadership team.

Talent Acquisition and Workforce Alignment

  • Architect a dynamic, branded talent acquisition pipeline servicing all levels of our business and spanning multiple geographic locations.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in talent acquisition and employee engagement and be an internal thought leader who will keep us on the cutting edge of team member service.
  • Evaluate and enhance the full cycle recruiting process to streamline efficiencies and avoid delays or gaps in the process and timelines.

Employee Relations, Culture, and Administration

  • Embody our culture of humility, excellence, and respect.
  • Manage employee relations and ensure a positive work environment focused on treating employees with respect.
  • Implement performance management systems and conduct performance reviews.
  • Partner with our legal team to execute all HR compliance and administration.
  • Identify, implement, and manage value-adding technology systems (e.g., HCM) and data-based analytics to enable us to scale our people operation in lockstep with our growth.
  • Maintain and enhance our unbending commitment to safety.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • A heart for people, a brain for business, and a soul for service
  • A fundamental understanding that our team members are the key to our success.
  • A thirst for learning, getting stuff done, and serving our clients and team members that will raise the collective bar of our entire team.
  • Strong understanding of all HR functions, including talent acquisition, talent management, compensation and benefits, compliance, and employee relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale labor-centric operations in a high-growth, multi-site environment.
  • Proven track record of success in developing and implementing strategic HR initiatives.
  • Experience implementing, working with, and managing an HCM is a plus.
  • Ability to hire, mentor, lead, and promote talent.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, manifesting in respectful candor and thoughtful directness.

This position will be seated in our Knoxville, TN HQ, with regular travel to our Sweetwater, TN and Salt Lake City, UT facilities.
