Salary Range
$69,000 - $90,000

A Brief Overview
We're looking for a forward-thinking systems administrator who wants to apply Site Reliability Engineering principles to a busy, dynamic web application server environment. You should be passionate about using observability tools and developing automation to continuously improve our systems, not just keep the lights on. Responsible for the administration, maintenance and performance of web services in support of external customer facing and internal corporate web applications in a 24x7 enterprise environment. Individuals in this position work as part of a team with other Web System Administrators and in conjunction with the Development teams to support web services environments. Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours work as required by system implementations, outages or upgrades. Individuals in the position will work with senior teams members on assigned projects.
What you will do

  • Responsible for administration, troubleshooting and maintenance of WebSphere Application Server and IIS environments.
  • Participate in implementation projects involving existing and new technical solutions; responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and coordinating assigned aspects of the project.
  • Assist in the promotion of code and configuration changes through development, UAT, and production.
  • Assist in the implementation of the systems and server infrastructure for new solutions following procedures listed in the Infrastructure Policies and Procedures manual as well as the Information Protection Policy manual.
  • Monitor application performance, perform problem investigation and resolution in coordination with other senior team members, other IT teams and Business Departments.
  • Maintain appropriate tools used to monitor and tune application performance.
  • Create and troubleshoot automated processes; manually complete tasks when automation fails.
  • Communicate with management on the status of projects and problem resolution efforts.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Understand and comply with all provisions of the Safety in the Workplace policy.


Minimum Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in related field.
  • A combination of post-high school education, job related certification and related experience equivalent to 3 years may be considered in lieu of a degree


Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, other technical field, or business preferred
  • Experience with Web Systems Administration in an enterprise 24x7 environment (0-3 years preferred)


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks while meeting agreed upon objectives
  • Some experience with WebSphere Application Server and or Microsoft IIS preferred
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills
  • General understanding of web server load balancing concepts
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Perl and Python scripting
  • Understanding of Java/Java EE concepts (JDBC, JMS/MQ, JSP, JNDI, etc.) from a systems administrator perspective
  • Experience with Oracle database systems
  • Experience with working on Linux platforms and bash shell scripting
  • Good time management, documentation and communication skills
  • Understanding of web protocols, TCP/IP and technologies such as HTTP, HTTPS and SSL


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Frequently remains stationary throughout a typical business day
  • Frequently operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and other rooms
  • Occasionally positions self to access drawers and shelves of various heights
  • Frequently reaches for and handles paperwork and files
  • Constantly communicates with customers, coworkers, and management in-person and on the phone
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information
  • FirstBank does not currently offer fully remote positions, except as required by law. The actual number of in-office days that may be required will vary by business unit, role, and business need.
