General Description:

The network engineer leads implementations of wireless network environments and provides engineering and operational support for incident and problem management. The network engineer - wireless designs, documents, and implements wireless networks and processes and ensures division and facility-based systems adhere to security, user access and configuration policies. This position works very closely with other corporate, division and facility technical and project personnel to coordinate the implementation and ongoing support of systems physically hosted at the data center and facility locations. The network engineer also provides support for problem management escalations which cannot be resolved by the service desk or operational technical analysts, and coordinates installation of new equipment, technologies, and processes for projects.

  • Serves as engineering resource and subject matter expert to operational and Architecture teams and project managers.
  • Collaborates with operations Administrators to resolve incidents and requests.
  • Designs and implements technology and processes according to principles established by architecture team.
  • Performs engineering analysis of issues escalated through problem management.
  • Develop, test, and deploy release packages to production including collaboration with operations and Service Desk resources ensuring that production releases are operationalized, documented, and supportable.
  • Provides local leadership, subject matter knowledge, coordination, and communication for projects, including defining scope, and ensuring deliverables are met.
  • Participates, as needed, in division/facility technical implementation projects
  • Creates business case proposals, analysis of technologies, financials, and proposed project plans.
  • Participates in strategic planning, creation, and maintenance of standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Designs, implements, and deploys various networking technologies.
  • Proactively addresses changes in business requirements by leveraging existing infrastructure investments and providing scalable options.

  • Coordinates a team assigned to accomplish specific technical tasks.
  • Manages data collection, reporting, and trending for critical devices and components.
  • Where necessary, provides 24x7 on-call support based on IT staff rotation and carries a phone as warranted, to assist with escalated incidents and requests.
  • Leads the build of technology operational models and workflows for the business.
  • Provides strategic contingency planning from the perspective of technology service line.
  • Provides vendor management, service level definition and service level management for vendors of technologies and/or services.
  • Creates RFPs and conducts reviews/assessments, makes vendor recommendations.
  • Actively forecasts workload, prioritize, and allocate resources.
  • Performs contract reviews and ensures risks are mitigated.
  • Coordinates a team of virtual resources assigned to accomplish specific technical tasks.
  • Leads the build of technology operational models and workflows for the business.
  • Provides strategic contingency planning from a network perspective.
  • Ensures continuity of network service management plans with other IT infrastructure departments.
  • Actively forecasts workloads to prioritize and allocate resources.
  • Conducts network planning sessions, financial and budgeting analyses with regard to network infrastructure expenses.
  • Conducts consultations with business partners, customers, and vendors, as warranted.
  • Actively participates in company technical seminars, planning sessions.
  • Mentors and trains Technical Services personnel, as needed.
  • Effectively works with enterprise and business IT personnel to ensure that priorities and standards are achieved.
  • Coordinates and participates in regular meetings and workshops with technical staff to ensure timely transfer of knowledge which impacts network architecture and security policies.
  • Adheres to and supports OU Medicine IT standards, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and protects confidentiality with regard to all aspects of patient care and employee information.
  • Adheres to Code of Conduct and Mission & Value Statement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a computer science or information technology related subject is required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

5 years' experience in a technical role directly working in an enterprise datacenter environment, preferably in a healthcare related organization.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations:
  • CCNA Wireless required within 36 months
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Passion to understand the mission of OU Health and to leverage technology expertise to improve business and clinical processes.

  • SDDC Architecture, workflows, and deployment automation.
  • Devise, plan, deploy, and improve wireless networks from the beginning to implementation by collaborating with vendors, managers, and network engineers.
  • Understand client requirements to be able to cater to their appropriate needs.
  • Use tools to evaluate to test and tweak wireless products
  • Design and validate the performance, quality, and reliability of the RF link.
  • Design and implement WLANs and other wireless networks.
  • Write manuals and document current network procedures.
  • Have knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP).
  • Make use of enterprise monitoring tools (SolarWinds and Splunk).
  • Optimize network performance by supervising performance, addressing network problems and breakdowns, and partnering with network engineers to optimize the network.
  • Develop and implement policies and classify and oversee access to protect network systems.
  • Make sure that all equipment, including servers and the other network products, are well-connected.
  • Devise and support radio frequencies (RF) link performance, reliability, and quality.
  • Enable data and system protection by developing and maintaining mechanisms for backing up and retrieval.
  • Collaborate with different teams to ensure the optimized performance of VoIP and other wireless telecommunication devices.
  • Work with security team to evaluate threats, troubleshoot issues, and comply with appropriate security configuration standards of their organizations.
  • Design and deploy changes to the configurations of clients as per the applicable change management process.
  • Make use of testing and diagnostic tools to assess and modify equipment.
  • Cisco ISE configuration including Policy sets, Conditions, and Results elements
  • Requires a strong knowledge of supported network, server, storage, application, security systems, virus protection, and hardware configurations.
