Summary This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Northeast Area (NEA), at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) in Beltsville, MD. In this position, you will perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and mobile equipment, including tractors with tow or attachment equipment, backhoes, trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, automobiles, buses, forklifts, and warehouse tractors. Possess and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a Passenger Endorsement and an EPA section 609 certification to purchase, recover and recycle refrigerant in accordance with EPA requirements. Class A CDL Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement EPA 609 Certification Physical Effort The work requires crawling under vehicles, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and arm and leg movement, and various strained and uncomfortable positions for a considerable portion of working time. Close hand-and-eye coordination is required in performing critical assembly and adjustment tasks. Frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, handling, and carrying of parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with support or with mechanical devices is required. Working Conditions The incumbent works both inside and outside. Work is usually performed on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, dust, dirt, grease, and fumes from vehicles. The incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, strains and falls on slippery floors. Outside work requires the incumbent to service vehicles and machinery in all types of weather and requires repair for on-and-off road service. The incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety shoes, and glasses. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education This position does not have an education qualification requirement.
