Practice includes:
Inpatient & ambulatory surgical services, high-risk OB, & hospital emergencies. All shifts are in-house with predictable end times. No call from home.
Job Summary:
Selects and administers intravenous, spinal, and other anesthetics prior to and during surgical or medical procedures, as a member of the anesthesia care team and in accordance with Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures. Monitors patient reactions and vital signs during and after anesthesia and takes remedial action when warranted. Submits postoperative report on patient condition and maintains records of anesthetics administered. Performs procedures outside of the OR in accordance with KP policies and procedures, established competency, and MD order.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Conducts and/or reviews anesthetic evaluation of patients prior to surgical proceedings, deliveries, or other pertinent medical procedures; consults with anesthesiologists and/or surgeons.
• Reviews patient charts, including permits, pre-operative medications, lab work, and other significant variations (e.g., hearing aids, dentures, contact lenses) per KP policies.
• Evaluates patients for potential difficulties with airway control; ensures all pre-anesthesia evaluations are thoroughly documented.
• Explains tests, procedures, and disease processes to patients and families; explains anesthetic risks and documents the discussion.
• Develops the care regimen; reviews with supervising physician; starts IV solutions; administers anesthetic consistent with patient safety and surgical need; evaluates and manages patient care.
• Participates in patient hand-off to post-anesthesia care unit personnel.
• Monitors patient vitals; informs anesthesiologist/surgeon of changes; takes remedial action when necessary.
• Mixes solutions to required concentrations (e.g., pentothal, succinylcholine, vaso-active drugs).
• Keeps accurate and complete procedural and anesthesia records.
• Performs procedures outside the OR (e.g., intubation, arterial line placement) per policy, competencies, and physician orders.
• Documents procedures on patient progress notes.
Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis and reserves the right to change job descriptions or pay status, with notice given to affected employees.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience:
• N/A
Education:
• Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program
• Graduate of an accredited school of anesthesia by date of hire
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required
License, Certification, Registration:
• Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (California) – Required at hire
• Registered Nurse License (California) – Required at hire
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support – Required at hire
• Basic Life Support – Required at hire
• National Provider Identifier – Required at hire
Additional Requirements:
• Understanding of all regulatory requirements and legal consequences of anesthesia care
• Ability to exercise professional prerogatives based on sound clinical judgment
• Track record of precautionary and preventive care practices
• Strong teamwork, communication, and listening skills
• Knowledge of interpersonal relations, customer service, adaptability, and change management
• Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment
• Must be eligible for Medicare/Medi-Cal enrollment (requires current certification by Council on Certification or Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists)

Pay: $270,963.00 - $308,550.00 per year
