Communication satellites, wideband links, command and telemetry, and terrestrial networks, along with their enabling technologies, are the domain of the Communication Technologies and Engineering Division (CTED). The division comprises all aspects, from architectures to implementation; our engineers work directly with corporate customers to ensure robust and resilient communications.
We are looking to hire a Digital Signal Processing and Communications Engineer into the Digital Communication Implementation Department (DCID) team to support the development ofsoftware-defined radios and FPGA technology for advanced communication and navigation system prototypes (GNSS, PNT, GPS, etc.) that solve the toughest problems related to digital communication systems. DCID's support includes guiding the acquisition of next generation communication and navigation systems needed by our customer, helping industry implement cutting edge technology, and creating innovative solutions to our customers' most challenging problems. Our group supports exciting programs such as the Aerospace CubeSat SlingShot Platform, development of the Payload Characterization and Environments (PACE) Lab, and compete in challenges such as the Blind Signal Classification Challenge. This opening can be filled as a Digital Communications & Signal Processing Engineer (Sr. Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist).
What You'll Be Doing:
Job Summary
  • Develop and implement signal processing algorithms with applications to GPS / GNSS receivers and/or communication transceivers and/or digital signal processing primarily on FPGA and embedded hardware.
  • Analysis of signal processing and communication system performance using Matlab, Python, or similar simulation environments.
  • Develop hardware and software prototypes of cutting-edge real-time systems for emulation and proof of concept.
  • Research pertaining to advanced signal processing, GPS technology and/or re-configurable communication processing.
  • Document work products in briefings and/or technical reports to customers and colleagues.

**This role will have the flexibility to support in a hybrid work model and occasional support will be required onsite in Albuquerque, NM.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for Digital Communications & Signal Processing Engineer (Sr. Member of Technical Staff):
  • The chosen candidate must be of U.S. Citizenship to support on this U.S. Government program AND will need to have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued Security Clearance of Top-Secret level with SCI access. This process will begin after on the start date.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or another related field
  • Minimum of 5-years of professional experience (including time in graduate degree programs) in an area of digital signal processing, GNSS positioning and navigation, alternative navigation techniques.
  • Proficiency with any of the following: MATLAB, C/C++, Python, VHDL.
  • Experience with DSP algorithm design and implementation.
  • Experience implementing digital communication and/or DSP algorithms in hardware using FPGAs and/or ASICs.
  • Proficiency in Verilog or VHDL, logic implementation, and simulation tools for complex FPGA designs.
  • Detailed understanding of FPGA RTL design, hardware architecture, testbench design, synthesis, static timing analysis, timing closure, and clock domain crossing.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and, occasionally, in a remote environment.

  • All of the above requirements for Digital Communications & Signal Processing Engineer (Sr. Member of Technical Staff)
  • Minimum of 8-years of professional experience in an area of communications engineering, digital signal processing, GNSS positioning and navigation, alternative navigation techniques

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Obtained a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or another related field
  • Laboratory experience troubleshooting digital hardware designs using logic analyzers / Chipscope / other measurement devices.
  • Experience using GNURadio, USRPs, and the RFNoC framework
  • Experience programming GPUs, hardware acceleration, process parallelization
  • Experience with RF lab equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes)
  • Experience using Linux, Real Time operating systems and DevOps tools (Jira, Git, Jenkins...)
  • Experience with Machine Learning
  • Currently possess an active and current DOD or DOE Security Clearance.
