Key Responsibilities:
Job Summary:
The DevOps Director will be part of a small team that manages all Social infrastructure including development and production environments, monitoring systems, and a number of other tools. This role will be responsible for ensuring that all requests are being fulfilled in a timely fashion and providing a road map for future initiatives. This person would be required to be hands-on and able to jump in to troubleshoot problems and guarantee high uptime, while also managing other DevOps Engineers to maximize the team’s throughput.
Essential Job Functions:
· Identify hardware, software and licensing needs, and make plans to ensure all gaps are effectively covered
· Interface with CTO and other business leaders to plan for future expansion and ensure scalability and reliability
· Assist with day-to-day operations of existing infrastructure to ensure stability across existing products
· Set up and maintain monitoring and analytics systems, integrating into applications as required
· Performance tuning of web applications, including databases and other related technology
· Troubleshoot production and development issues across the whole stack
· Assist in rollout and deployment of new features and productions to facilitate our rapid and constant growth
· Work with vendors and partners as needed to insure uptime goals are met
· Work with front and back-end developers to facilitate continuous integration and automated deployments
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or 4+ years applicable experience
Required Experience:
· Minimum of 10+ years of hands-on experience with Linux systems administration in a web-centric environment
· 2+ years administering networking equipment
· 2+ years designing multi-layer technical solutions using standard web-based technologies
· 2+ years of experience administering server-side virtualization technologies
Preferred Experience:
· Experience with Agile Methodologies such as Extreme Programming and/or SCRUM
· Experience with AWS administration
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
· Strong working knowledge of Linux systems and common applications: MySQL, Java, Apache, kickstart, etc.
· Functional understanding of common enterprise datacenter technologies like DHCP, DNS, NTP, LDAP, SNMP, SMTP
· Broad understanding of server, network, and storage technologies, and how these interact and relate to application performance and stability
· Solid understanding of system performance metrics and how they relate to application performance
· Experience with open source monitoring and alerting systems (nagios, cacti, etc)
· Well-rounded understanding of TCP/IP, including subnetting, routing, load balancing and security
· Demonstrated experience implementing or maintaining a system configuration automation infrastructure (puppet, chef, cfengine)
· Relevant understanding of current and future trends and technologies relating to the web, cloud/virtualization, the datacenter, and networking
· Understanding of and experience with continual deployment/integration (Jenkins, automated deployments, etc)
· Working knowledge and experience using a scripting language for systems administration (perl/python/shell)
· Knowledge of Amazon AWS components, configurations, and best practices including Kinesis, Redshift, S3, and Glacier
Physical Requirements:Â Office environment
Work Conditions: May require evenings and weekends and infrequent travel. Participate in on-call rotation
