HLA Technologist Lead

Job Description:

General Description: The HLA Lead Technologist Training Coordinator, under the direction of the HLA supervisor, has primary responsibility for coordinating the HLA training program. This person will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency and workflow in the HLA Lab is maintained as training occurs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs all HLA testing.
  • Responsible for the training of HLA staff including lab assistants, technicians and technologists.
  • Will train HLA staff upon implementation of new technologies.
  • Performs complex technical work, including reviewing patient files, being proficient in all lab software, and in on-call duties.
  • Ensures pre-transplant and post-transplant reporting to United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is performed in a timely manner.
  • In the absence of the HLA Supervisor, the HLA Lead Tech provides day-to-day supervision of HLA testing personnel and laboratory operations.


General Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree or above in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science/medical technology from an accredited institution

Experience: Three (3) years as a HLA Technologist

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) or Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) from the America Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, management and transplant staff.
  • Must possess the knowledge and skills to serve all ages and ethnicities.
  • Understands and demonstrates age specific competencies.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirement in HLA.
  • Follows authorized technical procedures when performing patient testing.
  • Assists in the development of performance improvement indicators.
  • Leads in the development of new testing.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation.
